Premium Blackjack is a high-quality variant of standard Blackjack, created by Playtech. It offers a number of extra features that take the game to the next level. Overall, it’s a smooth version of the classic game, with all of the standard rules that you would expect from Blackjack. But on top of this, Premium Blackjack also includes some fantastic extras.

One top aspect of Premium Blackjack is that players have the option to place side bets on every hand. These are a range of extra bets that create the opportunity to grab bigger wins. That means that when you play Premium Blackjack, you could walk away with a much bigger prize than in standard Blackjack games. This is a simple but fascinating touch that helps the game stand out to Kiwi players.

These extra ways to win don’t just allow players to claim bigger prizes, though: they also add additional layers of strategy to the game. As a result, Premium Blackjack is one of the most layered, complex, and interesting Best casino games on the market. And you can start playing it now at online casinos NZ.

RULES: HOW TO PLAY PREMIUM BLACKJACK

The main aim of Premium Blackjack is to beat the dealer. This can be achieved in a number of ways. The first is to get a hand that is of a higher value than the dealer’s hand, without going over a score of 21. The second way to win occurs when the dealer’s hand has a higher score than 21, but your score is lower.

Hands are worked out by adding up the value of each card you are dealt. A Blackjack is the best-scoring hand in the game: this comprises an Ace and any card with a value of 10. A Blackjack will also beat a hand of 21, if it is created without using an Ace and a 10 value card.

Kiwi players are able to choose up to five hands when playing Premium Blackjack. Your hands are played from the right and in a clockwise direction. The dealer takes their turn last. During the course of the game, standard Blackjack rules are in place. This means that insurance can be offered, as well as the option to double or split your hand.

Standard Player Rules

The basic rules for Premium Blackjack are as follows:

  • The game uses a shoe made up of six decks of cards. The shoe is reshuffled at the end of each hand, so each game essentially uses a brand new shoe.
  • An Ace is worth two different values: it can be worth 1 or 11 depending on the other cards you are dealt. All cards from 2 to 10 are worth the value on the card. The Jack, Queen, and King are also worth 10.
  • After splitting, players can’t split again.
  • If splitting a pair of Aces, only one card can be dealt to each hand.
  • After splitting a hand, players can choose to double.
  • Blackjack isn’t automatically checked for, no matter what card the dealer is showing.
  • A split hand cannot score a Blackjack, even if an Ace and 10 value card are dealt. It’s just worth 21.
  • If a player wins with a Blackjack, this pays out 3/2 instead of the standard 1/1.

Standard Dealer Rules

  • Once the dealer has stopped drawing cards, the hands are compared. If the player’s hand is closer to 21, the player is the winner.
  • If the player keeps drawing cards and the score exceeds 21, this counts as going bust. No matter what hand the dealer has, the player instantly loses if this happens.
  • If the player and the dealer are level on points, this counts as a draw and the player stake is returned. This is called a push bet.
  • The dealer will continue drawing until they have a score of 17 or more. This includes a 17 with an Ace, also known as a soft 17. If the player is bust, the dealer won’t draw any cards at all.
  • If the dealer is showing an Ace and the player chooses to double, the player will lose their bet if the dealer reveals a card with a value of 10 to score a Blackjack.
  • If the dealer is showing a 10 value card and the player chooses to double, the player stake is returned if the dealer then reveals an Ace to score a Blackjack.
  • A standard score of 21 is beaten by Blackjack.

Split

If you are dealt a pair as your first hand, you can choose to split the cards. The stake for each bet will be the same, so an extra wager will need to be placed in order to do so. The dealer will treat each split hand as a standard hand would be treated. The only exception to this is if a pair of Aces are split: in this case, only a single card can be dealt out to the split hands. If players create a Blackjack using a split hand, it will only count as a score of 21 rather than a Blackjack.

Double

You’re allowed to double on your hand before you are dealt a third hand, which means that you will double the stake on your hand. In return, you will be dealt just one more card and cannot ask for another to be dealt. Doubling is offered on every hand, as long as a third card hasn’t been dealt yet. This also applies to hands that have been split.

Insurance

When the dealer is showing an Ace, the ability to purchase insurance will be offered. If you choose to take the insurance, you will place an extra stake valued at half of your initial stake. This is placed as a side bet at odds of 2/1 on the dealer getting a Blackjack. That means that, if the dealer does have a Blackjack, you will get your entire stake back. If the dealer doesn’t get a Blackjack, though, you will lose your original stake and the insurance amount.

10-Card Charlie

While extremely unlikely, it’s possible to be dealt a total of 10 cards without going bust when playing Premium Blackjack. If this happens, the player will automatically win. The only exception to this is if the dealer has a Blackjack.

Side Bets

Side bets are extra bets that you can place on top of your standard wager. They’re not linked to your basic wager in any way, so you can win the side bet and lose the main bet. Insurance is an example of a side bet. However, others are available depending on the combinations created by cards you are dealt.

Perfect Pairs

Players are able to place a bet on either a player pair or dealer pair. These two options can be found on the betting areas near to both the player and dealer hands. Each bet has three different pair options available.

A Perfect Pair occurs when the first two cards that are dealt out, for either the dealer or the player (depending on the bet that was chosen), form a pair that come from the same suit. An easy example of this would be two cards of the 6 of Hearts.

A Coloured Pair is when either the player or the dealer has a pair dealt out, for the first two cards, that are not the same suit but the same colour. So, a 7 of Spades and 7 of Clubs would be a Coloured Pair.

A Red/Black pair is just a standard pair. However, in this case, neither the suit nor the colour would match. So, an 8 of Clubs and an 8 of Hearts would be a Red/Black Pair.

21+3 Bets

The 21+3 bets are another form of side bet. These take the first two cards that you are dealt and the dealer’s face card. From here, the bet will win if a suited three of a kind, straight flush, three of a kind, straight or flush are created. All of these have significantly bigger payouts than the standard bets in the game.

You can place any combination of side bets that you like, but you have to place a regular bet to access them.
