Vegas Dave Held in Contempt, Must Surrender Assets by Aug 5

A Las Vegas judge has held sports betting influencer David Oancea in contempt of court. Oancea, better known as "Vegas Dave," now faces a strict deadline. District Judge Tara Clark Newberry ruled Friday that he must surrender several assets. He has until Aug 5 to comply or report for incarceration. The order stems from a long-running civil dispute with Cabo Platinum. This Mexican luxury vacation rental company won a $30.2 million judgment against him last year. Newberry found Oancea repeatedly ignored earlier court orders tied to that case.

Judge Newberry's order lists specific items Oancea must surrender. Those include a Richard Mille watch and three Hermès Birkin bags. He may pay cash equivalents instead of handing over the items themselves. The order also demands more than $375,000 in cryptocurrency holdings. Oancea must also sign over power of attorney on Mexican property interests. That authority would transfer to Cabo Platinum principal Mishan Andre. Newberry also awarded Cabo Platinum nearly $294,000 in attorney's fees. She added roughly $17,000 in additional court costs.

The judge called Oancea's claimed inability to comply self-created and strategic. She said it stemmed from voluntary acts meant to avoid compliance.

Oancea's attorneys have pushed back strongly against the ruling.

Timeline: 2016 Rental Deal to $30.2M Judgment

The dispute dates back to a 2016 rental agreement. Oancea later purchased a property in Cabo San Lucas near Cabo Platinum's rentals. In 2024, he abruptly canceled two dozen confirmed and prepaid bookings. Those included weddings and other major planned events. Cabo Platinum said the cancellations caused significant financial losses. Oancea also made public statements that the court found false and damaging.

District Judge Timothy Williams issued the $30.2 million judgment in July 2025. Williams barred Oancea from blocking property access or interfering with rentals. Court records show he continued violating those directions afterward. A September 2025 hearing ordered him to surrender assets within two weeks. Oancea instead claimed the property no longer belonged to him.

Oancea's legal team includes Alex LeVeque, Ross Evans, and Michael Desmond. They argued the case had grown far beyond a routine contract dispute. Their filing called the outcome a cautionary tale about contempt powers. The attorneys say the ruling shows how far courts can stretch such authority. Newberry, however, found Oancea's hearing testimony to be false. She cited willful noncompliance with the court's earlier directives. Oancea has built a large following as a sports betting figure. He has more than 9 million Instagram followers across his platforms. Oancea also appeared in Showtime's 2019 docuseries "Action" about sports gambling. The Aug 5 deadline now looms over his next legal steps.
