Thomas Keller Group to Pay $2M in Bouchon Harassment Case

The Thomas Keller Restaurant Group will pay $2 million to resolve a federal sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit. This week, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the settlement. It centers on Bouchon, the French bistro inside The Venetian Resort on the Strip. A Nevada federal judge approved the deal on July 8. The agreement closes out a years-long investigation into workplace conduct at the restaurant. It also places the celebrated culinary brand under extended federal oversight going forward.

EEOC Alleges Harassment and Retaliation at Bouchon

The EEOC alleged misconduct at Bouchon dated back to at least 2018. Male supervisors and coworkers reportedly subjected both female and male employees to daily sexual harassment. The claims included repeated sexual comments and unwanted advances. They also included sexually explicit behavior and unwelcome physical contact.

Employees allegedly complained internally, but the restaurant group failed to take effective corrective action.

That left workers vulnerable to continued misconduct, according to the agency. Some employees who reported the harassment say they faced retaliation afterward. Beatriz Andre, acting regional attorney for the EEOC's Los Angeles District, spoke to the industry-wide problem. "Sexual harassment is illegal and continues to be a problem in the restaurant industry," she said. She added that the agency will continue enforcing federal law in similar cases.

$2 Million Settlement Terms and Four-Year Oversight

The $2 million settlement will be distributed among eligible employees who worked at Bouchon Las Vegas between 2018 and July 2026. EEOC administrators will determine individual payout amounts through its claims process. Beyond the payment, the agreement requires broader operational changes at the restaurant. The Thomas Keller Restaurant Group must update its anti-discrimination policies and expand harassment-prevention training for staff. It must also hire an EEOC-approved external monitor. That monitor will audit HR practices and flag gaps in complaint handling. Oversight will continue for four years under the settlement terms. The agreement does not require Bouchon or its parent company to admit wrongdoing.

Thomas Keller Group Responds, Faces Other Lawsuits

The Thomas Keller Restaurant Group pushed back against the EEOC's framing of the case. In a statement, the company criticized what it called "self-congratulatory, deliberately misleading clickbait headlines." It said Bouchon Las Vegas remains focused on improving workplace health and welfare initiatives. The group said it chose to resolve the claims rather than pursue prolonged litigation. Chef Thomas Keller, the group's founder, was not named as a defendant in the action. The settlement arrives during a difficult stretch for the company overall. It currently faces separate 2026 lawsuits from former French Laundry employees. Those suits allege labor and workplace violations at the Napa Valley flagship restaurant.
