RULES: HOW TO PLAY PREMIUM BLACKJACK
When you play Premium Blackjack, your overall aim is to beat the dealer’s hand. To do this, you must make the best possible hand that you can, totalling 21, or as close to 21 as you can, without going ‘bust’ (exceeding a total of 21).
Your hand value is determined by the cards you receive. The highest possible hand is named after the game – Blackjack – and this is made up of an Ace and any card worth 10 points. In the case of a hand totalling 21 with 3 or more cards, this is considered a hand of 21, and will be beaten by blackjack.
With Premium Blackjack, you can opt to play between 1 and 5 hands per round. Hands are always played in a clockwise direction, leading with your hand on the right. The last hand played is that of the dealer, and the outcome is then decided.
Premium Blackjack rule variants
This game is played like any standard Blackjack game, with these added rules:
- It is not possible for a player to split an already split hand.
- When Aces are split, only one card may be drawn to each split hand.
- Players can double after splitting.
- No matter what the first dealer’s face-up card may be, the dealer will not check for blackjack automatically.
- After a split, a hand containing an Ace and a 10-value card is not considered blackjack, but 21.
- Blackjack wins pay out at 1.5x your bet amount (3:2).
Winning at Premium Blackjack
Wins and payouts work as follows:
- If the player's hand total is closer to 21 than that of the dealer – once no more dealer cards are drawn – the player wins at even money (1:1).
- If player's hand total is over 21, the hand is considered bust and the player loses that hand.
- If both dealer and player have hands with matching point totals (17-21), neither wins and it is considered a push – this means the player receives their stake back.
- The dealer draws to 16, stands on 17 or greater (soft 17 included).
- The dealer will not draw cards when a player goes bust.
- If the dealer shows an Ace as the first card, and the player chooses to double, with the dealer receiving blackjack afterwards, the player will lose their doubled bet.
- When the dealer shows a 10-value card as their first card, and the player chooses to double, with the dealer receiving blackjack afterwards, the player’s doubled bet is automatically returned.
- Blackjack always beats a 21-total hand.
SPLIT
Before taking a third card, you can opt to double your bet - but once a third card has been taken, doubling is no longer an option. Once you have doubled a bet, a third ¬ – and final – card is automatically dealt for you. Note: it is possible to double on all hands of your choosing, including split hands.

INSURANCE
When your dealer receives an initial Ace face-up card, you have the option to take insurance - this is protection against the dealer having blackjack and secures you against losing your original bet. Opting for insurance does not impact any of your side bets, only your main hand. Taking Insurance costs half your original bet, which is placed separately on the table. If the dealer ends up with blackjack and you have taken insurance, you receive a payout of 2:1 (your original bet + cost of insurance). You will lose your insurance bet if the dealer does not land blackjack.
10-CARD CHARLIE
There is the possibility that you can draw 10 cards in total without going bust; this is possible also on a split hand. The hand is known as 10-Card Charlie and is an automatic winner.
SIDE BETS
Side bets are game-specific wagers on Premium Blackjack that you can opt for in addition to your regular hand. Side bets can only be placed in addition to a regular bet, and are popular among Irish players because when your regular hand loses, you can still win your side bet. You can place any or all of the side bets simultaneously, and side bet payouts are reliant on the win combination and paid automatically in accordance with the payout table.
PERFECT PAIRS
You can bet on Player Pair or Dealer Pair as a side bet. Place your Player's Pair side bet on the section labelled 'Player's Pair', located below the regular betting area for each of your active hands. This bet wins when the players initial cards are made up of a Perfect Pair, a Coloured Pair or a Red/Black Pair. Place your Dealer's Pair side bet on the section labelled 'Dealer's Pair' near your dealer's hand - this can be done once per round, and will pay out when the dealer’s initial cards form a Perfect Pair, a Coloured Pair or a Red/Black Pair.
- Perfect Pair: you, or the dealer, form a pair of the same suit in your first two cards (e.g. two 6 of hearts).
- Coloured Pair: you, or the dealer, form a pair of matching colours but different suits in your first two cards (e.g. 6 of hearts, 6 of diamonds).
- Red/Black Pair: you, or the dealer, form a pair of different colours and suits in your first two cards (e.g. 6 of clubs and 6 of hearts).
21+3 BETS
Place your 21+3 side bet on the table section labelled "21+", located below each regular betting area, for each of your active hands. This bet wins when your initial cards combine with the dealer's first card to form one of the following:
- Flush
- Three of a Kind
- Straight
- Straight Flush
- Suited Three of a Kind
