Also known as Caribbean Stud, Casino Stud Poker is a 5-card Poker game that’s played against the house. It’s easy to understand and play and thanks to the addition of side bets and a massive jackpot, there are numerous chances to win.

In Casino Stud Poker, you play against a real dealer in an elegant casino studio courtesy of gaming giants Playtech. It’s just you and them, and as a Casino.com member, you’ll have 24/7 access to this game and other live poker games like it.

RULES: HOW TO PLAY CASINO STUD POKER

Casino Stud Poker is a straightforward Live Poker title that you can play on both mobile and desktop. If you have any experience with Stud or Draw Poker varieties, you’ll fit right in. If not, don’t worry, as you only need to learn a few simple things:

  • Communal Game: Although it looks like it’s just you and the dealer, there are other players involved and they all play with the same hand. As a result, the hand will continue even if you fold and it’s also possible to sit out for a few hands and watch the game. It also means that progressive jackpots will be split between multiple players if they all play the jackpot side bet.
  • Betting and Calling: The game begins with an ante bet. Once you have wagered an ante, you will be dealt into the hand and can study your cards. If you like what you see, you can call, at which point a 2x wager will be added to the pot. If not, you can fold, and your participation will end.
  • Reveal: The dealer must qualify before they can beat you. They need to reveal at least a king high to qualify. Once the dealer has qualified, the hands are compared, and the payments are made in accordance with the paytable.
  • Side Bets: There are two side bets in Casino Stud Poker, and both are optional. The 5+1 side bet makes an additional Poker hand out of the player’s 5 cards and the dealer’s up card. The jackpot side bet triggers the progressive jackpot when a royal flush is revealed.

Casino Stud Poker Hands

If you know Poker hand values then you’ll be ready to answer the ultimate newbie Poker question, “What beats what?” Those three words have been uttered by countless Poker newbies over the years, and once they have that basic piece of information, they are good to go.

When you can answer that question confidently, you’ll be ready to play most forms of Poker and Live Poker, including Casino Stud Poker. For a full list of hand values and what defines them, take a look below.

  • Royal Flush: A straight flush formed from the 5 highest cards in the suit (10, J, Q, K, and Ace).
  • Straight Flush: Cards that are in the same suit and form a consecutive streak.
  • Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same type.
  • Full House: A combination of a pair and a three of a kind.
  • Flush: All 5 cards are in the same suit.
  • Straight: A consecutive and unbroken streak of 5 cards.
  • Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same type.
  • Two Pairs: Two lots of pairs.
  • One Pair: Two cards of the same type.
  • High Card: A high card, such as an Ace, is called when there is nothing else of value in the hand.

Casino Stud Poker Rules

There are a few basic rules that you need to remember when playing Casino Stud Poker.

The first is that Ace is always high and traditional poker rules apply. It means that a pair of aces will beat a pair of Jacks, Queens, or Kings, and a straight can be formed from an Ace and up to an Ace (such as A, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, J, Q, K, A).

The second is that there are only three main moves: ante, call, and fold.

Finally, the dealer must qualify with at least a king high. If they don’t qualify, the ante bet pays even money and call bets are returned. If they do qualify, and the player wins, a payout will be made according to the payout table listed in this guide.

If the dealer qualifies and has a stronger hand than the player, both the ante bet and call bet will lose.

CASINO STUD POKER PAYOUTS

The maximum payout in the main game is 100:1, which means you will get a 100x return on your wager. If you play the 5+1 side bet, it increases to 1000:1 and if you play the J=jackpot side bet, you can win the progressive jackpot.

The progressive jackpot is an ever-growing jackpot that expands every time someone plays and only resets when it is claimed. To win the jackpot, you need to have the relevant side bet active and must have a royal flush in your hand.

The lowest payout is the high card, which means that you don’t have anything bigger than a pair and so your hand is valued according to its highest card. If such a hand beats the dealer, it will return a payout of 1:1. If not, it is settled as a loss, and the same is true for all hands.
