Las Vegas Visitation Rebounds After Months of Slow Tourism

Las Vegas casinos posted a blockbuster May, as Strip gaming revenue rocketed past $807.8 million. The monthly haul marked a 13.1% surge over May 2025, pushing Nevada's statewide gaming win to $1.39 billion. A packed convention calendar and high-profile entertainment events fueled the gain. Visitor arrivals climbed 2% to 3.48 million, a rare upturn after months of sluggish tourism. Despite an  8% dip in passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport, the city's recovery gained momentum through alternative travel routes and stronger domestic visitation.

Convention Fuel Las Vegas Visitor Recovery in May

Convention attendance surged 14.7% to 586,300, forming the backbone of May's visitor recovery. Major recurring conventions, including Knowledge, ICSC Las Vegas, and Licensing International Expo, each drew about 25,000 attendees. Newer rotating events, including Sweets and Snacks Expo and the CHAMPS Trade Show, added another 27,000 visitors. Hotel occupancy reached 84.7%, up 1.7 percentage points from a year earlier. Weekend occupancy climbed to 91.9%, while midweek held steady at 80.7%.

Strip properties achieved 87.6% occupancy, compared with 85.3% a year earlier.

Citywide, average nightly room rates hit a record $211, while Strip properties commanded $226, a 6.6% increase.

Entertainment added to the traffic: BTS sold out four shows at Allegiant Stadium, and the Vegas Golden Knights advanced through the NHL Conference Finals.

Drive-In Tourism and Steady Visitor Growth Through May

Despite an 8.4% decline in airport passengers, alternative travel patterns reinforced May's visitor gains. Daily vehicle crossings at the I-15 Nevada-California border rose 7.4% to 48,568. This reflects strong drive-in tourism from Southern California, offsetting headwinds from air travel. Through May, Las Vegas welcomed 16.5 million visitors year-to-date, a marginal 0.3% gain. Strip gaming revenue for the year reached $3.7 billion, up 4.1% despite a difficult January. The rebound accelerated from February through May, with every month posting positive year-over-year results.

Strong Player Demand Across Table Games and Slots

Table games anchored the Strip's surge, led by explosive growth in baccarat. Baccarat revenue jumped 59% to $174.3 million, reflecting strong Asian player participation and premium-tier betting activity. Blackjack also performed well, generating $100.5 million in revenue, a solid 12% year-over-year increase. Electronic gaming machines delivered $410.7 million in revenue, nearly 8% above May 2025 levels.

Together, table and  slot games showed resilience as the gaming industry moved through the post-spring season. This diversified revenue base suggests healthy demand from both casual and high-stakes players, offsetting any softness from slower airport arrivals.
