Gold Coast Dad Wins A$8 Million Oz Lotto Jackpot on His Birthday

A Gold Coast father has received a birthday present few people could ever hope to unwrap after winning A$8 million in Oz Lotto.

The win follows another major Australian lottery payout earlier in 2026, when a New South Wales woman landed a A$27.52 million Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot.

The Main Beach man held the only Division One winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1699, held on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

With no other Division One winners, he collected the entire A$8 million top prize.

The timing made the win even more remarkable.

When lottery officials finally reached him to confirm the prize, it was his birthday.

Winner Almost Missed the A$8 Million Call

The Gold Coast dad did not discover his win immediately.

He had been busy at work and was unable to answer an earlier call from The Lott. Lottery officials eventually managed to speak to him late the following afternoon.

He had no idea why they were calling.

His reaction quickly changed when he learned the size of the prize.

“Oh my god! $8 million! I’ve won $8 million?!”

He then revealed that the call had arrived on his birthday, describing the news as “mind-boggling”.

The shock apparently left him needing a drink simply to deal with what he had just heard.

He later joked that he would stop at a bottle shop for champagne before sharing the news with his wife.

He revealed that he had recently experienced health problems and that the family had been through a difficult period.

It’s been a tough time for my family and I. I’ve had some troubles with my health, so this has come at a good time.

Rather than immediately announcing a shopping list of luxury purchases, the father appeared most excited about telling his wife.

He said the couple usually went out for dinner every Saturday and wondered how he would manage to keep the news secret until he could surprise her.

A Birthday Present Worth A$8 Million

Lottery winners frequently speak about lucky dates or meaningful numbers, but in this case the coincidence came after the winning numbers had already been drawn.
