  • Online casino revenue hit $326.4 million in May 2026, up 25.6% year-over-year and marking a new monthly record.
  • Total iGaming wagers hit $9.48 billion, the fourth highest monthly handle since the market began in 2022.

Ontario's regulated iGaming market posted fresh records in May 2026. Online casino operators collected $326.4 million in revenue, the highest monthly figure of the year so far. Bettors wagered $8.37 billion on online casino games alone, also a record. Total iGaming handle across the province reached $9.48 billion for the month. That figure ranks as the fourth-highest since the market launched in April 2022. iGaming Ontario released the data, confirming growth in wagering and revenue over both April 2026 and May 2025. Sports betting and poker made up smaller shares of the market, while player channelization toward licensed sites also improved.

Online Casino Wagers and Revenue Hit New Highs

Online casino games dominated Ontario's iGaming activity in May. The vertical commanded 88% of total cash wagers, handling $8.37 billion. That marked a 3% increase from April and broke the previous wagering record of $8.33 billion set in March. Revenue followed the same trend, with operators winning $326.4 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue. That number beat the prior high of $320.7 million from December 2025. Compared to May 2025, wagering climbed 20.4%, and revenue rose 25.6%.

Year-over-year revenue growth has slowed steadily through 2026, dropping from over 33% in January to 25.6% in May.

Ontario now sits at $1.54 billion in online casino revenue for the year. That pace puts the province on track to approach $4 billion by year's end. Ontario had 46 licensed operators running a combined 80 gaming sites in the province.

iGaming Handle Hits $9.48B as Sports, Poker Add In

Beyond online casino, Ontario's full iGaming market generated $9.48 billion in cash wagers during May. That total rose 17.5% year-over-year and was up 2% from April. It fell short of the all-time handle record of $9.59 billion, set in March. Total non-adjusted gross gaming revenue reached $413.1 million. That was the second-highest monthly figure ever recorded, trailing only December 2025's $425.6 million.

Sports betting made up 10% of the handle at $972 million, down 7% from April and flat compared to May 2025. Sportsbooks still improved on revenue, taking in $81.3 million, up 13.1% from the previous year. Peer-to-peer poker remained a small slice of the market. It contributed $134 million in wagers and $5.4 million in revenue, both posting modest monthly gains. Active player accounts slipped 1% to 1.257 million, while average revenue per account rose 3% to $329.

Channelization Improves as Operators Exit, Enter

Player channelization toward licensed sites also improved in May. A joint study by iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario examined player habits. It found that 91.1% of Ontario online gamblers now play exclusively on regulated platforms. That marks a jump from 83.7% recorded during the same period last year. The market has also shifted through operator exits and entries in recent months. Rivalry halted play in Ontario in February, while Conquestador and Casumo both left the province in April.

Meanwhile, BetNova launched for the first time in April, and PENN Entertainment introduced its Hollywood Casino app to Ontario. iGaming Ontario's next report covers June. It is expected to show a sports betting boost in the opening weeks of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
