“At Par” Pricing Attracts 50,000 Canadians to Resurgent Las Vegas

Key Takeaways
- The promotion was announced in late January by owner Derek Stevens
- Canadian visitation to Las Vegas fell by 24 percent year-over-year in 2025
- Guests effectively saved 27%, going by the current exchange rate
One Las Vegas casino owner’s plea to resurrect Canadian visitation is working.
Derek Stevens, owner of Circa Resort & Casino, the D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, offered “at par” pricing to Canadian guests, effectively offering them a 27 percent discount by today’s exchange rate. Through three months, more than 50,000 Canadians took advantage of the deal, wagering at least $10 million on slot machines in the process.
The resurgent numbers come on the back of Las Vegas reporting severe declines in tourism last year, including a 24 percent year-over-year drop in Canadian guests.
A direct correlation
In the three months that Stevens’ casino-resorts offered the deal, they had at least 5,100 hotel rooms booked by Canadian travelers. The $10 million in slot machine spend is also only reflective of the promotion's limits, which tap out at $500 in at par wagerings per customer.
Hotel room stays and purchases at select bars—including the hockey-themed BarCanada at the D Las Vegas, Overhang at Circa, and Bar Prohibition! at Golden Gate—were not capped.
“Canadians have always played a meaningful role in downtown Las Vegas, and we’re incredibly appreciative of the loyalty they continue to show our city,” Stevens said in an announcement. “The response to our At Par program has been tremendous and we look forward to creating more exciting moments for our guests from the Great White North.”
The exchange rate between Canadian and American dollars at the time of writing (May 8) is CA$1 for $0.73. Applying this rate to the past three months would mean that a user who ran up a bill of $200 for a room, $50 for food and drink, and $100 in slot machine wagering would only pay CA$350 as opposed to the usual CA$478.96.
The only requirement for Canadian guests to receive the at par discount is to present a valid Canadian passport or government-issued ID.

Canadian tourism to Las Vegas surges
Stevens, who said that Canada was “always welcome in Las Vegas,” announced his promotional plan in January in a social media post that read “O Canada True North Strong and Free.”
Stevens didn’t grow up in Canada, but he had a close view. His family’s home in Grosse Point, Michigan, sits right on Lake St. Clair and stares out at a number of Canadian localities. He also has family that lives in different areas north of the border.
“Canada has always been a part of my story, so I feel a deep connection to our Canadian visitors here in Las Vegas,” he said in the posted to his X (Twitter) account.
Inspired by his upbringing, the at par promotion has reversed a troubling trend for local tourism. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that 38.5 million people visited Las Vegas in 2025, marking a 7.5 percent year-over-year decrease. That figure ballooned to 24 percent for Canadians, who were cited as a reflection of the “broader U.S. economy.”
The at par pricing promotion will run through Aug. 31, a period that includes the entire FIFA 2026 World Cup. Although Las Vegas is not a host city for the event, it is a popular gathering spot for fans and bettors alike.
Stevens’ properties also have several Canadian-themed events on the horizon, including a free show by DJ Tiga on May 15 and a meet and greet and themed cocktails with rock band Finger Eleven on June 27.
