Virginia Online Gambling: What’s Legal + Top Sweeps Sites in 2026

Fact Checked By:

Last Updated:

Real-money online casinos in Virginia remain illegal after HB 161 and SB 118 failed in conference after passing both chambers. Fortunately, residents can still access Virginia sweepstakes casinos, which remain legal under federal sweepstakes law. They can bet on sports using mobile sportsbooks, which the state launched in 2021.

Below, I’ll discuss some of the state’s top sweepstakes casinos to help Virginians find the platform that best fits them.

Crown Coins Casino

If you are new to Virginia social casinos, Crown Coins is an excellent option. The platform doesn’t feel cluttered and is easy to navigate, despite featuring over 700 games. While its 50 SC redemption minimum makes it harder to earn prizes, the low 1x play minimum means your coins go further than other sweeps casinos.

One area to be aware of is customer service, which Crown Casino promotes as being “24/7.” The platform offers several options for finding help, but the response time can be slow. Fortunately, the casino features a helpful, in-depth help section that allows users to easily find answers to many of their questions.

ProsCons
Low minimum playHigh minimum redemption
Easy to navigateFewer options for table games
700+ game catalog
Get 200% More Coins on First Purchase - 1.8M CC + 90 SC

BlitzMania Casino

This is the newest Virginia sweepstakes casino on my list, launching in March 2026. Despite being such a new sweepstakes casino, BlitzMania has already launched one of the more competitive VIP programs in the industry. There are five levels players can advance to join, with each level bringing more ways to earn coins and prizes. There is also an invite-only sixth tier, but the casino keeps its benefits secret.

I came away most impressed by the customer service and help options provided. While BlitzMania doesn’t offer an in-depth help section like many other VA online casinos, it does have a live chat option available 24/7. The ability to reach a live agent is a valuable and rare feature in the sweeps industry, earning BlitzMania a spot on my list.

BlitzMania’s game catalog is largely focused on slot games, making it an ideal choice for those players.

ProsCons
1x wagering requirementHigh minimum redemption
Valuable VIP ProgramFewer redemption methods
24/7 Live Chat Support
Get 225% More Coins on First Purchase + 2.6M BC+ 117 SC

Mega Bonanza Casino

All of the casinos on my list offer a large game catalog, but none is larger than the one found at Mega Bonanza. The casino offers over 800 different styles, with a good variety of table games and slots. The site even offers limited live betting, which is rare among Virginia online casinos.

Surprisingly, Mega Bonanza Casino doesn’t offer a mobile app. However, I found the web-based version to work as well as the apps offered by other Virginia social casinos. I typically skip traditional and sweeps casinos that don’t offer apps, but Mega Bonanza’s mobile web platform has become an exception.

ProsCons
Low redemption minimumOnly two redemption methods
800+ game catalogNo Android app
Live chat and phone support available
150% on First Purchase UP TO GC- 600K + SC 303 FREE

BigPirate Casino

BigPirate has already become one of the largest and most well-rounded online casinos in Virginia. Not only does it offer 1,500+ games, but it also supports one of the largest selections of live games we’ve seen. There are currently over 100 available, which include varieties of blackjack, roulette, poker, and more.

While testing the platform, I quickly found its island-building adventure game to be my favorite feature. This allows players to build their own islands and raid other players' islands to win coins. The unique game adds a social aspect, with players able to participate at no cost.

ProsCons
1500+ game catalogNo mobile app
100+ live tablesDifficult to navigate
Unique island-building game
250,000 GC + 25 Free Sweep Coins (SC) + 1 RUM

Lucky Stake Casino

The first thing I noticed about Lucky Stake is how much it feels like a real-money casino. It offers fantastic graphics and offers titles from some of the biggest real-money casino game providers, including the popular RubyPlay Slots.

One thing many players miss when signing up for this sweepstakes platform is the live games section. While it offers several titles, they are only available once players reach the third VIP level.

Another important thing to know is that the 10 SC minimum redemption is only for gift cards. Players seeking cash prizes must meet a much higher minimum of 100 SC.

ProsCons
800+ slot games100 SC minimum redemption for cash prizes
Sleek design on web and mobile appRestricted access to live tables
Low redemption minimum for gift cards

One thing you should prepare for is a ton of pop-ups. When logging into many sweepstakes casinos, players often get a flurry of bonus options. Some are free, but most require a purchase. This can be extremely frustrating when trying to log in for a quick session, but there are some solutions. Certain platforms allow you to toggle the pop-ups to enable smoother gameplay. If you don’t see it, a 24/7 live chat option may be able to help!

How We Choose the Best Virginia Sweepstakes Casinos

Players use Virginia online casinos for a variety of reasons, which is why I use a long list of criteria when assessing them. As a result, players of all types can find the information they need to choose the best platform possible.

Below is an overview of the criteria I use when reviewing VA online casinos.

Criteria for ReviewWhy it Matters for Players in Virginia
Redemption processThe thrill of winning prizes is why people sign up for sweepstakes casinos, but redemption issues are common. I test each operator to ensure the information I share is reliable.
Game varietyOffering 500+ games is cool and all, but I believe variety is even more important. Too many platforms focus on slots but offer little in the way of table and live games.
Mobile experienceThe casual style and pace of play make sweepstakes casinos an ideal option for players on the go. I ensure each platform runs smoothly when testing it from my phone.
Customer ServiceIt’s important to remember the difference between quality and quantity when it comes to customer service in the sweeps industry. Some platforms offer several help options, but players end up waiting days to get answers, if they do at all.
Purchases & RedemptionsMost Virginia online casinos offer a limited number of payment methods. Those can vary greatly between casinos, with some favoring their more active players.

Unfortunately, dishonest offshore casinos sometimes pose as legal sweepstakes casinos. Some will offer forms of real-money betting, which puts players in violation of Virginia’s gambling laws. I recommend checking a casino’s licensing, which should be displayed on its platform. If you can’t verify them, it may be best to select another option.

Virginia Gambling Law: How Close Did Sweeps Come to Being Banned?

Virginia sweepstakes casinos remain legal, but there is reason to worry that this will change in 2027.

Virginia came close to becoming the latest state to ban sweepstakes casinos earlier this year. A pair of bills, HB 161 and SB 118, proposed to legalize real-money casinos in Virginia while also banning the sweeps industry. While the bills passed their respective legislative chambers, they died as the two sides failed to reconcile their proposals.

While the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance is lobbying for the state to regulate rather than ban sweepstakes platforms, it hasn’t made much progress.

Will Virginia Legalize Real Money Online Casinos?

While nothing is ever guaranteed, it seems likely that Virginia will legalize online casinos soon.

The first true effort to legalize Virginia online casinos came earlier this year when lawmakers introduced HB 161 and SB 118. Both proposals initially failed on their first-floor votes but passed after being reconsidered. Unfortunately, conflicts over the legal framework left the two chambers at odds, resulting in both bills failing in conference.

One of the biggest hurdles to legalizing the industry is a debate over who would regulate it. The Senate has pushed for it to fall under the Virginia Lottery’s authority, while the House wanted to create a new entity.

Governor Abigail Spanberger sided with the House, promising to veto any bills that don’t include the creation of a new gambling-specific regulator.

How to Get Started

If you are new to Virginia sweepstakes casinos, getting started can be overwhelming. That’s why I created the step-by-step guide below to help make the process as smooth as possible.

  1. Choose a platform: Before you get started, ask yourself what you’re looking for in a Virginia online casino. For example, are you just looking for casual play to pass the time, or are you hoping to hone your casino strategies and earn rewards? Once you have that answer, you can find the platforms that match best by visiting Casino.com/us/.

    Choose a platform
  2. Create an account: Once you select a platform, you’ll want to navigate to its home page or download the app (when available). Most sweepstakes casinos will have a “register” or “join now” button at the top of the screen. Click that to create your account and enter the requested information.

    Create an account
  3. Claim your welcome bonus: Once you’re done creating your account, you’ll receive a welcome bonus that includes gold coins and often sweeps coins. The gold coins can be used to play games, while sweeps coins are used to win prizes. Once you claim the bonus, those coins will automatically be added to your account.

    Claim your welcome bonus
  4. Confirm enrollment in the rewards program: Most sweepstakes casinos will automatically add new players to their rewards or VIP programs. These are free to join, and can deliver unique rewards as you play, ranging from bonuses all the way to faster redemption processing.

Confirm enrollment in the rewards program
  5. Find the game you want to play: After claiming your bonus, you are all ready to start playing games. VA online casinos offer a wide selection on their homepage, with a side or top menu to navigate to certain game types. Players can also use the search bar to find a specific game title or type.

Find the game you want to play
  6. Redeem your SC for prizes: If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to earn enough sweeps coins to claim prizes. To start this process, you’ll need to find where your SC are displayed. Some Virginia online casinos allow you to click on that total to begin the redemption process, while others offer a “redeem” button in the top or side menu.

    Redeem your SC for prizes

Before you can claim your first prize, you’ll need to go through the standard Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, which is a federal requirement. You’ll need to provide proof of address and a government ID to confirm your age and eligibility.

  7. Make purchases for more coins (optional): If you’d like to buy GC or SC, you can do so by visiting the shop offered by the sweeps casino you are using. They offer a wide range of packages, with some just offering GC while others include SC and additional bonuses.

When signing up for Virginia online casinos, I highly recommend double-checking that you aren’t opting in to receive marketing materials from an operator. Sweeps platforms don’t have to follow the same advertising rules as real-money casinos, and will hammer you with texts and e-mails if you let them. Most platforms require you to manually opt in, but some have that as the default setting.

Virginia Casino Bonuses and Promotions

Virginia sweepstakes casinos offer coin packs for purchase, but savvy players focus on bonuses and promotions. Below, we’ll share some of the most common offers available.

Welcome Bonuses

This is one of the most common bonuses, allowing new players to receive free coins, spins, and other benefits before playing their first game. These bonuses are typically free and automatically add GC and SC to your account to help you get started.

The amount received will vary greatly between Virginia online casinos, so I always recommend comparing offers before selecting a platform. BigPirate Casino offers one of the largest ones we’ve seen, with players getting 250,000 GC just for signing up.

No Deposit Bonuses

These bonuses do not require any purchase, making them incredibly valuable for players. These are commonly used for welcome bonuses, but the best Virginia gambling sites also offer them for existing players.

Crown Coins Casino offers one in the form of a daily bonus, where players can start receiving 5,000 GC when logging in each day, with the total going up for players who log in every day.

Coin Pack Bonuses

These bonuses are commonly pushed to sweepstakes players, but require a purchase from the platform’s shop. They offer purchase multipliers, allowing you to buy more coins for less money. BlitzMania offers one of the best coin pack bonuses, giving players 225% more coins when they make a qualifying purchase.

While these can be valuable, I recommend seeking them out only when you are already planning to make a purchase. Claiming offers solely because of perceived value can lead to overspending without any guarantee of a reward.

Referral Bonuses

The sweepstakes casino industry is extremely competitive, leading to some fantastic referral bonuses being offered. These require a player to have a friend sign up and play, resulting in a reward for both players.

It is important to always read the terms and conditions for referral bonuses. Each will have requirements for claiming the bonus, so simply signing someone up won’t be enough. Some set an amount of plays or coins spent, while others require a purchase from the new player.

Payment Methods for Virginia Players

One drawback of Virginia social casinos is that they don’t offer as many payment methods as their real-money counterparts. We’ve created a table below showing the most common options available.

Virginia’s 5 Commercial Casinos

Virginia legalized commercial casinos in 2020 after HB 4 and SB 36 were passed, setting up public referendums at five proposed locations, all of which passed. That led to the construction of casinos in Bristol, Danville, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Richmond.

Unlike most states, Virginia did not legalize the industry under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, thereby allowing commercial operators to enter the new market.

Earlier this year, the Virginia Senate and House approved SB 756, which would authorize the construction of a sixth casino in Fairfax County. However, Governor Abigail Spanberger vetoed the bill, citing concerns that county officials would be excluded from the approval process.

Responsible Gambling in Virginia

While sweepstakes casinos don’t use real-money wagers, problem gambling is still a threat. Some players overspend on coin packs, ignoring the responsible gambling habits they’d use at one of the state's five retail casinos.

Fortunately, Virginia residents have access to several different options for bettors struggling with problem gambling.

  • What is the Virginia gambling age?
