Hollywood Casino Kansas City gets its hotel
After years of delays, the hotel is now officially expected to open in 2028.
The property will fall under the Tribute Portfolio brand, part of Marriott Bonvoy. It will have about 140 guest rooms, according to the announcement.
“This is an exciting new addition to our operations in Kansas City,” said Jay Snowden, CEO and President of PENN Entertainment. “Significant developments are in process in the area surrounding our property, and this is another organic growth opportunity that aligns with our disciplined approach to further our competitive position in our markets across the country.”
Hollywood Casino sits on turn two of the Kansas Speedway in the Village West area of Kansas City, Kansas. Village West also hosts Children’s Mercy Park, which hosts home games for MLS club Sporting KC, and several shopping outlets.
A new Buc-ee’s adjacent to the Hollywood Casino is also being developed, while the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs are expected to move to a new stadium in Village West in 2031.
“This will be an incredible addition to the Village West entertainment district and furthers Kansas Entertainment’s commitment to economic development in Wyandotte County,” said Pat Warren, President of Kansas Speedway. “PENN Entertainment has been a fantastic partner and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to the new hotel, where they’ll have convenient access to the casino, speedway, and all that the area has to offer.”

Local officials and stakeholders are expected to attend Friday’s event, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. local time. Guests will include members of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, Kansas Lottery, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
Completing the hotel project will officially fulfill an obligation that was made more than a decade ago. The hotel was required in the development agreement between the casino operators and the local Governments.
Hollywood Casino paid over $18 million in fines over the past 11 years because the hotel was never created, according to Wyandotte County.
The hotel will be operated by Shaner Hotels, which has invested more than $1 billion into hotels in the U.S., Italy and the Bahamas.
“I think it’s a really exciting time to be here in Village West and western Wyandotte County,” said Lydia Garvey, general manager and vice president of Hollywood Casino.
The local Hollywood Casino contains over 9,500 square feet of gaming space, which is outfitted with more than 1,500 slot machines, table games, a sportsbook, and four dining locations.
