Key Takeaways

  • Responsible Gaming Education Month occurs every September
  • BetMGM promised to enhance its responsible gaming program, GameSense
  • MGM Resorts and BetMGM already trained 3,000 employees in GameSense

MGM Resorts International and BetMGM made a six-figure donation to support responsible gaming efforts by the American Gaming Association (AGA).

The gaming entities provided $320,000 to the AGA’s annual September Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM 2026), a Tuesday announcement confirmed. The remainder of September will see MGM support responsible efforts, keeping in line with a program it already follows.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM will also enhance their existing responsible gaming protocols, among other focuses.

BetMGM pushes responsible gaming effort

The announcement confirmed that MGM Resorts and BetMGM had joined the yearly September campaign organized by the AGA and supported by a variety of gaming operators.

RGEM 2026 was designed to supply customers with the information they need to make informed and responsible decisions while avoiding problematic behaviors. MGM is contributing to that as it continues to preach responsible gaming on the part of its customers.

“Player protection is a priority every day at BetMGM, and RGEM gives us an opportunity to highlight those efforts,” said Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM. “Through GameSense messaging in professional sports venues, employee education, and investments in research and support services, we are helping players access the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions.”

The companies’ $320,000 contribution will be used to fund research by the International Center for Responsible Gaming and to expand sponsorships for state problem gambling councils, including the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline. An unspecified donation is also being made to the Evive Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds access to digital support and peer resources for those affected by gambling harm.

MGM maintains and operates casinos with live-dealer table games, slot machines, and additional amenities across the world. It also offers the BetMGM online sportsbook and online casino to customers in approved jurisdictions.

GameSense keeps players aware

On top of making its donation, BetMGM’s GameSense messaging will continue to be presented in specified NFL and MLB venues, and it will be pushed into NHL and WNBA arenas in Las Vegas, Nevada.

GameSense, a responsible gaming program that encourages healthy and intelligent decision-making, will be shown on LED scoreboards and video boards pre-game. The program was developed and licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017 by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

“Responsible gaming has the greatest impact when the industry works together like we have with Play Smart from the Start,” said Rob Lockwood, SVP Strategic Communications, American Gaming Association. “Our collaboration with MGM Resorts and BetMGM helps keep these important messages visible to players while supporting research and programs that can make a difference.”

The list of venues that will display GameSense is as follows:

  • Acrisure Stadium - Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas Raiders
  • Comerica Park - Detroit Tigers
  • Empower Field at Mile High - Denver Broncos
  • Fenway Park - Boston Red Sox
  • Ford Field - Detroit Lions
  • GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas City Chiefs
  • Great American Ballpark - Cincinnati Reds
  • Lincoln Financial Field - Philadelphia Eagles
  • M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore Ravens
  • MetLife Stadium - New York Jets
  • Michelob ULTRA Arena - Las Vegas Aces (New)
  • Nationals Park - Washington Nationals
  • Nissan Stadium - Tennessee Titans
  • PNC Park - Pittsburgh Pirates
  • State Farm Stadium - Arizona Cardinals
  • T-Mobile Arena - Vegas Golden Knights (New)

To supplement RGEM 2026, MGM Resorts and BetMGM will use research-based education to train their employees on responsible gaming approaches. More than 3,000 employees already graduated from the GameSense advisor program.

"What makes reaching 3,000 GameSense Advisors so meaningful is the number of employees who have chosen to take an active role in promoting responsible gaming for our guests,” Stephen Martino, SVP & Chief Compliance Officer, MGM Resorts International. “That collective commitment is helping us expand the reach and impact of our program across our company.”
