Key Takeaways

  • BetMGM’s new games include “Derek Jeter LuckyTap” and “Phillies LuckyTap”
  • Jeter will host a VIP experience for All-Star Weekend-attending fans
  • Seven states including Pennsylvania offer legal online casinos

BetMGM is releasing two new online casino games during MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“Derek Jeter LuckyTap” and “Phillies LuckyTap,” co-developed by Design Works Gaming, will debut for customers July 11-14. Jeter, a Hall of Famer and BetMGM ambassador, will make his presence felt throughout the weekend up until the All-Star Game on Tuesday.

The opportunity builds on BetMGM and MGM Resorts International’s renewed partnership with MLB.

Pennsylvania is one of only seven states with legal, live online casinos. That makes BetMGM’s fan engagement very fitting.

During All-Star weekend, the online gaming operator is running game demos at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies. It will also advertise its brand throughout the stadium and will host a VIP opportunity with Jeter.

“All-Star Week gives BetMGM the opportunity to deliver once-in-a-lifetime moments and bring fans closer to the action,” said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer at BetMGM. “Tying an exclusive game to a name like Jeter is a clear play to stand out in a crowded [Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board]-regulated market, and it reinforces how BetMGM Casino leans on brand partnerships that its rivals can’t easily match.”

Derek Jeter LuckyTap immerses BetMGM customers in the role of one of the game’s greatest shortstops by having players catch flying baseballs to accumulate prizes and unlock bonus rounds.

Phillies LuckyTap asks customers to make an in-game plate appearance. Every swing represents an opportunity to add more prizes to the grand total and increase the eventual payout.

A fitting time and venue

Capital One cardholders will be allowed to access the All-Star festivities one hour before general admission opens at 10:00 a.m. local time, Saturday-Tuesday.

Running the activation during All-Star weekend will bring more eyes to BetMGM’s brand. All-Star weekend draws about 150,000 total visitors during the four-day event.

The MLB All-Star Game also draws 7-7.5 million average viewers on FOX, while the Home Run Derby gets 5.7 million average viewers.

Pennsylvania is also an appropriate venue. The PGCB reported that the state’s iGaming industry generated about $2.8 billion in revenue last year, a year-over-year 27.9 percent increase. The state collected $1.1 billion in tax revenue from that total.

Online casinos offer slot machines, blackjack, poker, and other casino amenities to customers via mobile and web apps.

Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia offer legal iGaming platforms to customers. Maine legalized iGaming this year and could launch its market before the turn of the calendar.
