On the Farmasi Arena stage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, "FalleN," whose real name is Gabriel Toledo, announced that, after a a two decade career he'd be retiring from Counter-Strike esports.

Retirement Date and Legacy

The retirement for the two-time major winner and FURIA IGL is set for the end of 2026. This means he will not participate in any Majors scheduled for 2027.

"It's 247 more days," he said during his speech, HLTV reported. "I've decided that at the end of the year, I'm going to do other things within CS with you all.

"I’m here to invite you to join me on this journey for another 247 days. We still have a lot to accomplish together, and afterwards, I will have the opportunity to do many other things with you, outside the server, but with Counter-Strike in my heart.

"I think we’ll be able to do lots of things to help other players change their lives through the game, just as mine was changed."

Toledo, 34, has played a massive role in Brazilian Counter-Strike esports, having been part of organizations such as Complexity, FireGamers, Luminosity, SK, MIBR, and Liquid.

Impact and Community Reaction

Toledo also runs the Games Academy project in Latin America, which offers instructional videos and platforms for pickup games and tournaments.
When FalleN hangs it up, he'll be leaving as a captain and in-game leader. With FURIA, he's been a part of wins at BLAST Rivals 2025 Season 2, IEM Chengdu 2025, and FISSURE Playground 2. He also helped mentor Danil "molodoy" Golubenko to become Rooke of the Year in 2025.

"I’d like to say a huge thank you to my family — many of them are here today — and to my wife, Leticia, for their unconditional support over the last 23 years," a teary-eyed FalleN said.

"I’d also like to say a huge thank you to my teammates. I’m going to miss you all very much in the future."

Needless to say, this announcement sent shockwaves through the CS community.

"Counter-Strike truly loses something when FalleN exits the server. Legendary captain who inspired an entire country. The willingness to pass knowledge to the entire community goes even further. One of the masters of the game who wanted to raise the entire scene with himself," said Counter-Strike broadcaster Mauisnake on X

"In a parallel universe not far from ours, FalleN retired at the '22 Rio Major and we all revered his career as it was. How lucky we are to have seen his legend reemerge in 2025.

"Today's announcement makes cheering for FURIA through the rest of this year an absolute no-brainer," said Counter-Strike commentator @ScrawnyCG on X
