Key Takeaways
- The woman wagered the minimum $25 allowed on the machine
- This was the sixth million-plus-dollar winner on the slot machine in the last 18 months
- Americans recently wagered more than $3 billion on slot machines in one month
A San Diego woman won life-changing money playing a slot machine at a local casino.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, turned a $25 wager into an eye-watering $1,152,944.82 payout last weekend. The $25 bet was the minimum amount allowed on her machine of choice.
This is the sixth million-plus-dollar payout on this gaming machine at Pechanga Resort Casino in California in the last year and a half.
Pechanga casino guest wins huge on slot machine
The San Diego casino confirmed the local visitor was crowned a winner during an Oct. 1 visit to Aristocrat's popular Dragon Link slot machine game.
“On Oct. 1, the guest enjoyed the casino floor, tried her luck on a Dragon Link Happy and Prosperous slot by Aristocrat Gaming, then hit it big,” a casino spokesperson said in a news release.
Shortly after the woman placed her bet, the screen was filled with pictures of gold coins. This continued all the way through her bonus round, indicating that she had won the progressive jackpot, worth more than $1.1 million.
The casino revealed that she did not have plans for how she would use the money — or at least, she had not reached a decision.
“The winner chose to keep her plans private, but her milestone win continues a run of exciting jackpot payouts at Pechanga Resort Casino,” the spokesperson said.
Big money and big wins
Slot machines are a mainstay in casinos, gambling dens, truck stops, bars and restaurants, grocery stores, and approved locations across the country. A September report from the American Gaming Association claimed that slot machine revenue reached nearly $3.3 billion in July, up 0.9% year-over-year. That was part of $47.2 billion in revenue for the first seven months of the year, up 6% year-to-date.
The Pechanga Resort Casino was not only part of that revenue stream, but it also paid a handsome amount to its guests. The recent winner was one of five to take home more than $1 million playing the Dragon Link game at Pechanga in the last 18 months.
Before her, the last seven-figure winner was a Riverside County native who visited the facility on April 21. That was 10 days after a San Bernardino County guest also pocketed just over $1 million. The largest recent win occurred in March, when a lucky guest spun and won more than $1.3 million.
“Winners are made every day at Pechanga Resort Casino and one of the easiest ways to get great perks when playing favorite slots and table games is to be a member of Pechanga Rewards,” the casino spokesperson said.
Pechanga’s website claims to offer the most mystery card roulette and double-deck blackjack live-dealer table games of any casino on the West Coast, along with poker, slot machines, a high-limit salon, a resort with a golf course, bars and nightlife, and much more.
