Key Takeaways
- Three teens, two 16-year-olds and one 18-year-old, have been arrested.
- The police are looking for more suspects.
- This is the second chip stealing incident that's happened at MGM International Harbor since December 2023.
Teens Responsible for the Crime
The alleged suspects are two 16-year-olds and one 18-year-old. They’re all males. Per the Prince George’s County Police Department, they were arrested and taken into custody. The incident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. this past Saturday. However, there were others that took part in the incident that have seemingly not yet been found.
After setting off the extinguisher on the gaming floor, they attempted to steal chips before attempting to escape the campus of the casino.
All three teens are being charged as adults, and if convicted, they will serve time in adult prison. None of the suspects have been identified at this time.
No one was injured, and it’s unclear if the chips were recovered.
Casino Goers Comment on the Situation
Following the incident, casino goers commented on the situation.
“I think it’s just shocking and it’s shameful where our society is going with kids. [They] think they can do whatever they want and feel no accountability and it seems to be getting worse,” Steve Shafer of Alabama said to DC News Now.
Another patron echoed Shafter’s sentiments.
“It’s disappointing and shocking,” Laura Yates of Texas added. “I can’t believe they were so brave to walk in there and do something like that with no regard for anyone’s safety.”
There’s a $2,500 reward available for information that could lead to the arrest of the other individuals involved in the brazen acts, in addition to the three who have been arrested.
MGM International Harbor Past Chip Theft
In December 2023, MGM International Harbor experienced another attempted chip theft when seven suspects went into the casino and took chips off of game tables.
At the time of the holdup, two suspects were apprehended, while the other five avoided capture.
During the incident, casino security guards sustained minor injuries, per WTTG, a Washington DC TV network.
