Members of the Placer County Sheriff's Office responded to the Dos Coyotes Border Cafe inside Thunder Valley Casino at around 7:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Naugle was captured and detained within minutes of the deputies’ arrival on-scene.

Although an investigation is still ongoing, officials said that it appeared as if the man — who used a knife to carry out his attack — was familiar with all of his victims. A KCRA3 news crew reportedly saw a man with an apron in handcuffs being placed into a patrol vehicle.

One of the victims was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other four were treated by Thunder Valley and California Fire emergency personnel on-scene with additional non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office confirmed on Thursday that Naugle and the five people who were stabbed were all employed by Thunder Valley. Naugle is facing attempted homicide charges for his actions.

An isolated incident

Thunder Valley casino officials later confirmed that the stabbing occurred in the kitchen area of the restaurant inside the casino. They also said that there were no additional suspects or active threats to customers.

Casino officials also chose not to evacuate the property. Only the restaurant was closed for the rest of the evening.

Naugle is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times. No additional information has been provided.

Thunder Valley Casino Resort opened in June 2003. It is owned and operated by the Auburn Indian Community and serves customers throughout the state’s northern and Central Valley areas.

Inside the casino, customers will find 144,500 square feet of gaming space with over 3,000 slot machines, poker, and 125 live-dealer table games.

Aside from sporadic instances of petty crime, theft, and drug-related incidents, Thunder Valley has not been the site of much illegal activity.
