Key Takeaways
- The casino takes over from Jokers Wild, which closed on Sunday
- Henderson’s population grew more than 20% during the decade ending in 2023
- Cadence Crossing is part of a $100 million plan
Boyd Gaming broke its 20-plus-year streak of inactivity by opening a new property in Henderson, Nevada on Wednesday.
The gaming company’s website says that it owns and operates 28 casinos in 10 states. All of those had been opened more than two decades ago until the recent announcement that Cadence Crossing Casino was opening its doors to the public.
The new property beat its estimated completion date after plans were first revealed in July 2024. It only had its ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony in April 2025.
Boyd launches new Henderson casino
The new property sits on top of what had been an old and empty lot. Inside the 50,000-square-foot development, guests will find 10,000 square feet of gaming space with 450 slot machines and electronic machines offering blackjack, craps, and roulette. There are no live-dealer table games.
“We are excited to introduce Cadence Crossing Casino, our newest entertainment experience for southern Nevada locals,” said Steve Schutte, Boyd Gaming’s executive vice president of operations. “Cadence Crossing is a modern and stylish gaming entertainment experience worthy of the Cadence community.”
Customers can also dine at several areas, including Tacos Los Gauchos and Tin Lizard Bar and Grill.
The new gaming location was created with a focus on community. Henderson, which is only 20 minutes from Las Vegas, is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, increasing its population by 22% to more than 320,000 during the decade that ended in 2023, according to a study from Storage Cafe.
“What locals are looking for is not just great quality, but they are looking for great value,” said David Strow, Vice President of Corporate Communications. “So we are going to offer that here at Cadence Crossing.”
On top of serving new local guests, Cadence Crossing is also hoping to recapture former patrons of Jokers Wild Casino, which closed this past Sunday. David Strow, the V.P. of Corporate Communications at Boyd Gaming, confirmed that all of “about 100” Jokers Wild employees were transitioned to and are currently employed at Cadence Crossing.
Back and better
Cadence Crossing is only part of a $100 million capital expenditure plan by Boyd. Also included in its upcoming plans is the demolition of Jokers Wild, whose space will be converted into a parking area.
“We are upping our game here, right? Joker’s Wild did very well for us for about 30 years, but this neighborhood has evolved,” Strow said.
Cadence Crossing and the upcoming parking area also aren’t the limit of what Boyd has planned. According to officials, it could also use part of the Joker’s Wild campus to expand the property to add more amenities for guests.
“As excited as we are to get our doors open today, this is just the first step toward our ultimate vision for Cadence Crossing,” Schutte said. “We’ve got a lot of land to use here, and we plan to use it as the city and Cadence community continue to grow.”
News3LV reported that early guests at Cadence Crossing, largely consisting of former Joker’s Wild patrons, spoke glowingly about the new casino.
Industry experts also expect Henderson and the casino, located off of Boulder Highway, to continue to grow, increasing the financial forecasts for the new casino.
