The Announcement
On X, the account @EWC_Extra, which has a bio reading "Your backstage pass to the Esports World Cup. July 6 - August 23, 2026," posted the announcement for the prize pool.
"A pitch that hosts only the best players around the world.
"Get ready to kickoff the EA SPORTS FC Pro World Championship at EWC 2026!" the account wrote on Feb. 6, with a graphic attached.
The graphic showed the tournament dates, qualifying tournaments, and Stages 1 and 2.
This $1.5 million prize pool is a $500k increase from last year. The EA Sports FC Pro World Championship was also held at the Esports World Cup last year, as the Esports World Cup Foundation and Electronic Arts partnered.
More About the Lead Up to the Championship
In total, 36 players will qualify for the tournament through the FC Pro Partner Leagues and the World Championship Play-Ins.
Per the graphic, here's the breakdown:
- ePremier League: 2 slots
- eLiguq 1 McDonald's: 2 slots
- Esports Saudi Pro League: 2 slots
- LALIGA FC Pro: 2 slots
- eMLS: 2 slots
- WOW Virtual Bundesliga: 2 slots
- KPN eDivisie: 2 slots
- eSerie A Goleador: 2 slots
- CONMEBOL eLibertadores: 2 slots
- FC Pro Open: 8 slots
- FC Pro World Championship Play-Ins: 10 slots
From there, Stage 1 will feature the 36 players and six rounds. These will be best-of-1, and the top 24 will advance to the playoffs, while the bottom 12 are eliminated.
Then, in Stage 2, the Playoffs, 24 players will compete in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-1 matches. The top 8 players will receive byes.
Looking at the EA FC Esports Scene
EA FC Esports has been growing, with multiple organizations signing players to compete.
On Feb. 1, Vejrgang from Team Falcons won the FC Pro Open. With that, he became the first-ever EA Sports FC player to win $1 million in prizes.
With that win, he's already secured a spot in the World Championship in July.
The FC Pro Open drew nearly 220,000 viewers, making it the sixth most-watched EA FC esports event.
