Key Takeaways

  • Complexity entered the competitive Apex Legends space in 2019
  • They recently placed sixth at the ALGS in Sapporo
  • Complexity won the ALGS Autumn Circuit Playoffs in North America in 2020

After six years of competitive play in the Apex Legends space, North American esports squad Complexity has announced it’s done with the title.

Over that time, since entering 2019, Complexity has had some highs and lows, such as the FACEIT Pro Series and ALGS.

This comes despite Apex Legends being one of the titles at the Esports World Cup

Complexity’s X Statement

Complexity took to X to make an announcement about the exit.

“Complexity entered Apex Legends esports in 2019 at the very beginning, long before the scene became what it is today. Since then, we’ve had the honor of bringing on competitors like Monsoon, KIMCHI, iShiny, and Lou, players who would become pillars of the game,” it began.

The team went on to mention that it had signed streamers that “represent an incredible community.” It also mentioned the recent sixth-place finish in Sapporo.

“Today, we're saddened to announce our exit from Apex Legends. We’ll be keeping a watchful eye on the scene, but for now, a great chapter in our history comes to an end. Thank you to the fans for all your support these last 6 years,” the statement finished.

A Complexity Retrospective

As mentioned, Complexity has had some success. The sixth-place finish at the ALGS in Sapporo netted them about $100,00 in winnings.

Their most notable win came in 2020, winning the ALGS Autumn Circuit Playoffs in North America.

Complexity didn’t shut down the idea of returning to the game someday, but for now, they’ll be active in this Counter-Strike, Rocket League, and Halo spaces.

Community Reaction

Fans of Complexity and the esports community at large expressed their thanks to Complexity. Their exit comes as several creators/players have left esports teams to competitively play other titles, including Team Vitality and Nisqy (League of Legends) parting ways, FNS retiring from VALORANT play to focus on streaming, and more.

“Damn. The end of an era. Was glad to see you and your members put in work during every ALGS since 2019. Cheers to you all,” one user wrote.

“monsoon was my goat,” someone else said.

“Thank you for an amazing six years,” the Apex Legends Esports account wrote.

We’ll see if Complexity comes back to Apex in the future.
