Key Takeaways

  • TenZ, whose birth name is Tyson Ngo, announced he’s leaving Sentinels
  • TenZ is known for his VALORANT play, but he started his career with Counter-Strike
  • TenZ previously said he would step down from competitive play to become a Sentinels content creator, but that’s no longer the case

Longtime VALORANT veteran Tyson “TenZ” Ngo has announced he’s leaving Sentinels. He was with the esports squad for four years.

TenZ’s X Post

TenZ went to X to announce the departure.

“Hey everyone, I’m sure most of you have seen now and yes, I have parted ways with Sentinels. It was an amazing ride and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything else. Sentinels was a true family for me in the players and the staff. A little bittersweet but I’m excited for this new chapter of my life. I appreciate all the Sentinels fans for the continued support throughout my career and hope you continue to support the team even with my absence. All good things must come to an end, goodbye Sen City it’s been fun!”

TenZ’s mentioned the “next chapter” of his life, but it’s unclear what he’s referring to.

This comes after his girlfriend, Kyedae, a fellow VALORANT player and streamer, announced an indefinite hiatus from streaming, citing health issues.

TenZ Won’t Be A Content Creator for Sentinels

TenZ began competing in VALORANT after beginning his career with Counter-Strike. While playing on loan to Sentinels, TenZ was part of the first rosters to win a VALORANT Masters event, winning the Masters Reykjavik in Iceland in 2021.

They also found success in 2024 at the Masters in Madrid.

In late 2024, TenZ announced he would be retiring from VALORANT competitive play, but would become a content creator for Sentinels.

He cited he had “a lot of stuff” he wanted to do outside of gaming. Today, he has over 6.5 million followers across YouTube and Twitch.

However, TenZ is leaving Sentinels completely. He won’t be a content creator for them.

While Sentinels has a full roster of competitive players, they could look to sign a new streamer.

On May 8, Sentinels made a post on X about TenZ’s departure reading, “retweet if you fell in love with Valorant watching TenZ play.”

Community Reaction

“[g]onna miss you in red... will continue cheering you on no matter where you choose to go next!” wrote Starforge Systems on X, the computer company that was co-founded by one of the biggest streamers on the planet, Asmongold.

Others had more heartfelt messages toward TenZ.

“I haven't watched sports since I used to with my dad. He would watch the world cup at 2 in the AM if it was hosted in another part of the world. Your 2024 run was the season I'd wake up early in the morning to catch up with the games and that made me think of my dad in the best way,” wrote X user Blazr.
