More on the Deal
With this acquisition, Team Gullit co-founder Corné Dubelaar will step down from the team's day-to-day operations but will stay on as an advisor to Team Liquid.
Team Liquid will also turn Team Gullit’s headquarters in Alkmaar, Netherlands, into another spot for its operations.
The press release also revealed that the EA FC division will be supported by notable partners, including Alienware and SAP, to help train, scout, and develop talent.
Where Did This Acquisition Come From?
The 2025 Esports World Cup has a rule in which esports clubs must compete under the same name in the Club Championship to earn points for the EWC Club Championship. This is important because the event has a prize pool of $27 million. With Team Liquid acquiring Team Gullit, it can earn points from the tournament.
Also, Team Liquid has been expanding its esports organization globally. They’ve also acquired teams like STUN.GG’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang squads in Aura Esports and Echo Esports.
Now, Team Liquid competes in a number of events involving several titles, such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Chess, Overwatch, VALORANT, and competes in things like the Race to World First when new World of Warcraft raiding content is released.
Speaking of chess, Team Liquid also signed 5-time chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen to compete on their behalf.
“Team Gullit built something incredible through their entrepreneurial spirit. They developed a nimble commercial approach in a difficult market that combined great scouting and training, fantastic content and marketing, and a brand connection to Ruud Gullit — a Dutch legend in football,” said Victor Goossens, co-CEO and founder of Team Liquid.
“The Team Gullit HQ in Alkmaar will become another Team Liquid hub in the Netherlands, where we will be able to hold bootcamps for players and events for our fans. We are proud and grateful to call them a part of Team Liquid.”
