PGL, one of the biggest esports promotion organizations, has announced it plans to commit at least $22 million to the Counter-Strike 2 esports ecosystem in 2027 and 2028.

In all, there will be 12 events, six each year, as the Counter-Strike 2 calendar expands.

More on the Commitment

On March 9, PGL put out a press release explaining their intentions.

They say that, with this move, "PGL is raising the bar for competitive integrity, broadcast quality, and financial sustainability for professional teams and players."

Additionally, there will be "performance-based rewards with participation incentives and viewership-driven bonuses."

Here's a breakdown of how the funds would be distributed:

  • $2.2 million to invited teams
  • $2.8 million on offer for the annual viewership incentive
  • $6 million to top performers across the PGL Tier 1 events.

"Our biggest commitment yet to Counter-Strike. At least 12 events over 2 years, with a commitment of at least 22 mil USD. Our best offer yet, which I'm pretty sure will be embraced by all the teams, players, and the community. We are now finally able to compete with any other CS2 event out there and will carve our way. All the incentives in our program will attract the best possible CS2 teams and players to participate in our events. Looking forward to delivering more great events to the Counter-Strike community," said PGL CEO Silviu Stroie on X

Additionally, PGL will have a hospitality program that's not only for players but also for staff members. With it, PGL will cover travel costs for eight team members and also have practice rooms. They've described the practice rooms as: "High-performance competition environment, including regularly updated PCs, optimized peripherals, and dedicated practice rooms mirroring the stage setup."

Finally, teams will be able to sell merchandise and host activations during PGL events.
