Ninjas in Pyjamas Expands Into Tekken 8 With Signing of Meo-IL

Key Takeaways

  • Ninjas in Pyjamas signs Meo-IL to enter Tekken 8 esports
  • Expansion comes ahead of Tekken 8’s $1M Esports World Cup
  • Meo-IL boasts top-six finishes at EVO Japan, SOOP Super Tournament, and CEO

Ninjas in Pyjamas, a Swedish esports organization, is now expanding into the Tekk 8 esports space.

How? The organization has signed South Korean Tekken player Oh "Meo-IL" Dai-il.

Meo-IL was part of the SOOPers organization based out of South Korea for the last four years, playing in both Tekken 7 and 8 contests.

There's been a lot of expansion lately, including Team Vitality adding rosters for CrossFire and PUBG ahead of the Esports World Cup.

Another Fighting Game Player

Meo-IL joins a Ninjas in Pyjamas squad that has other fighting game players such as Joel "Juicyjoe" Sundell and Arman "Phenom" Hanjani, who both play Street Fighter.

Meo-IL competed in many events related to Tekken 8 last year, including finishing inside the top six at EVO Japan and at CEO. He's considered one of the best Tekken 8 players in the world.

He also finished sixth at the SOOP Super Tournament.

"I'm excited to join @NIP!

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. I will do my best to represent the team well. As it is a new beginning, I will work harder and more constantly! #GONINJAS #NIPWIN," Meo-IL wrote on X

Ninjas in Pyjamas has also recently expanded into Apex Legends, League of Legends, and Rocket League.

Tekken 8 As An Esport

The Tekken 8 esports space is growing. We mentioned Team Vitality earlier, and another game they've expanded to is Tekken 8, signing Neia in January. Neia finished 17th at Evo France.

What's also helped it become more prominent is that it'll be played at the Esports World Cup with a $1 million prize pool.

In 2026, it'll be 32 players competing between August 4 and 7.

In March, there will be a Season 3 update for Tekken, which will include balancing and adjustments to the Ranked System.
