Key Takeaways

  • Zula Casino is ending sweepstakes games in five states
  • The five states include Delaware, Connecticut, Montana, Nevada, and New Jersey
  • This means that sweepstakes games will no longer be available, but Gold Coin games will be

As of Aug. 1, Zula Casino will end its sweepstakes games in five more states.

Zula Casino launched in 2023, and on Aug. 1, sweepstakes games at Zula Casino will end in Delaware, Connecticut, Montana, Nevada, and New Jersey.

However, Gold Coin games will still be available.

“After careful consideration, Zula Casino has decided to withdraw its Sweepstakes services from the Restricted States,” Zula's message to players read.

“Starting Aug. 1, if you are an existing or new user from [these states], you will no longer be able to play any games using Sweeps Coins. Zula Casino will stop accepting mail-ins with a postage or delivery date of AugusAug. 15, for ‘no purchase necessary’ Sweeps Coins from the Restricted States.”

Zula Casino Changes From "Excluded States" to "Restricted States"

Before this change, Zula Casino had a section for "excluded states." That list included just three states: Idaho, Michigan, and Washington.

Now, there's a restricted states list which has added Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Montana, and Nevada.

In the latter five, sweepstakes games aren't available. In the former three, all games are completely removed.

Most of these states make sense, though, as Connecticut and Montana have passed legislation that's been signed into law that's anti-sweepstakes.

New Jersey has a bill that has passed, but is awaiting Governor Phil Murphy's signature. Nevada is in the same boat.

As for Delaware, the first state to ever offer real-money online casino play, it's been working toward doing away with sweepstakes casinos since 2024.

Zula Casino could soon be adding more states, too. It was one of the targets of cease-and-desist letters in Maryland in March and New York in June.

What About Yay Casino, Sportzino, and Fortune Coins?

A Canadian company, Blazesoft Ltd, owns Zula Casino. This company also operates Yay Casino, Sportzino, and Fortune Coins.

As of July 31, there have been no changes to these sweepstakes casinos. However, given the similar terms and conditions, it's likely only a matter of time before they add those states to a restricted list.

Similar Strategy to VGW

Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW), the company that oversees Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker, has done something similar. It started the trend of ending sweepstakes games, but keeping Gold Coin games open.

Now, Zula Casino and Blazesoft are doing the same thing.

After all, there are laws, such as those in New Jersey, which show that sweepstakes games are targeted, but Gold Coin games are seemingly OK.

This is because Gold Coins can be purchased for real money, but they cannot be redeemed like Sweeps Coins.

This move allows companies like VGW and Blazesoft to stay compliant and maximize revenues as long as possible.

We'll see if more states are added to sweepstakes casinos under the Blazesoft umbrella in the future.
