Service Dog Killed In Shooting
On April 12, police responded to the casino at around 1:00 a.m. Upon arriving, two people had been shot and were taken to the hospital.
However, the persons responsible fled before the police arrived.
Police believed Sampson was from Arlington, Texas, and was believed to be fleeing in that direction.
It was later revealed by an Arkansas couple that their service dog was caught in the crossfire and died.
"They're our babies, you know? We don't have kids, and they are absolute angels," said Sara Scowden to local news outlet FOX 23 News. "Well-trained sweethearts and just innocent."
"My husband heard the commotion, the gunshots, and opened the door to help save victims...our dogs got out and started...following the suspects out of the building," Scowden said.
Her husband, Blake, recounted the moment.
"Sara's mother was asleep, and I woke up to the noise of a woman screaming in the hallway, and my military training kicked it, and I just went out, and I saw her on the floor with two gunshot wounds, and there was a male around in front of me that just got shot, so I grabbed and pulled the two of them while the shooter was continuously shooting at me trying to bring them in the room," said Blake.
"Cora, my husband's service dog, was found deceased [and] covered in blood, shot on somebody's porch later that morning," said Scowden.
They had another service dog, Busch, who was still missing as of April 24.
"We've been searching day and night throughout the city...following any possible lead, and nothing's turned up," said Scowden.
Men Arrested
Police identified Sampson as a suspect. He later voluntarily turned himself in and was booked into the Osage County jail on a $200,000 bond.
Another suspect, Marquaveon Da’Shawn Goff, turned himself in on April 24 and was booked on a $200,000 bond.
