Message to Players in California
Here's the message Stake.us players received in California:
We regret to inform you that, due to recent changes in California state regulations, our platform will no longer be available to users within California as of December 30th.
As a result, we’re unable to accept any new registrations or verifications using documents issued by the State of California.
If you wish to use our platform, you’ll need to verify your account with an ID card or driver’s license issued from a non-restricted area.
Should you obtain such documentation, please contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you with the verification process.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
Stake.us is also telling its California players that, starting Dec. 30:
Affected accounts will be placed into Redeem Only mode. This means you’ll still be able to log in and redeem any remaining balance, but you won’t be able to:
- Play games
- Make purchases
- Participate in promotions
- Request postcards for free Stake Cash or generate codes
So, new players will still be able to access Stake.us after Dec. 30, but it'll only be to redeem Sweeps Coins. It's also interesting to note that new player registrations often close on the same day players lose access. This process is typically much more staggered, with weeks between account registration closures, sweepstakes game shutdowns, and a deadline for redemptions.
However, Stake.us is ensuring that all players receive their Sweeps Coin redemptions and isn't setting a deadline.
Staying Until The End
So far, there are just three brands that have said it'll stay until the end of the change, its model post-Jan. 1.
These brands include Stake.us, Modo Casino, and WOW Vegas.
As mentioned, Modo Casino is making changes. It'll offer Gold Coins play only and completely shutter sweeps play.
As for WOW Vegas, it'll remain operational right up until the deadline.
Finally, Stake.us will leave just a couple of days before the ban date.
Stake.us Facing California Lawsuit
Stake.us is facing more issues in California than most other platforms. Earlier this year, Stake.us, along with streaming platform Kick, Big Time Gaming, Evolution, Hacksaw Gaming, NetEnt, No Limit City, Pragmatic Play, and Red Tiger Gaming, were named in a lawsuit filed by the Los Angeles City Attorney, alleging that all entities operated in an illegal online gambling network.
To date, 11 gaming vendors have left Stake.us in California, including Pragmatic Play and, despite not being named in the suit, Playtech announced it was leaving all sweepstakes casinos in California.
