Casinos Believed to Have Left
Several sweepstakes casinos have fled the state, including Jackpota, which left in February.
As for other sweepstakes casinos that have left, these are believed to include Rolling Riches, Modo.us, Stake.us, Chanced, Punt.com, High 5, McLuck, Hello Millions, Mega Bonanza, Jackpota, SpinBlitz, PlayFame, Pulsz, Pulsz Bingo, Legendz, Funrize, NoLimitCoins, FunzCity, Fortune Wheelz, TaoFortune, Sidpot, Spree, Baba, and Carnvial Citi, per Sweepsy.
That said, there are some still operating, including Chumba, WOW Vegas, RealPrize, and Fortune Coins.
Similar to New York
In New York, Attorney General Letitia James issued cease-and-desist letters, which led to 26 sweepstakes casinos leaving the State.
Of course, West Virginia used a subpoena rather than a cease-and-desist letter.
A subpoena is a formal document used to demand the production of documents and other information. It could lead to penalties if the person receiving it is uncooperative.
Conversely, a cease-and-desist is more of a warning.
So, West Virginia is taking a more rigid stance on sweepstakes casinos than New York, based on this information.
There Are Legal Online Casinos to Protect in WV
In West Virginia, legal real-money online casinos are available. This is only the case in a single-digit number of states.
Thus, McCuskey is doing his best to protect those platforms.
In New York, Senator Joseph Addabbo has been trying for years to legalize online casinos.
Moving forward, if you're a fan of sweepstakes casinos and live in West Virginia, prepare for even more change. McCuskey is coming down harder on these platforms than in other states.
