A man has been charged after a viral video from earlier this year saw him destroying a slot machine at Grand Casino Hotel & Resort in Shawnee, Oklahoma

The Man Arrested

George Smith was arrested for destroying the machine. He claims that the destruction came after a jackpot malfunction.

He said the prize got as high as $600k before it went black.

“I was just thinking like me, my kids, my family, we gonna be straight,” said Smith in an interview with a local news outlet live from a hospital bed. He was brought there after suffering injuries during the destruction. He said he “caused a lot of muscle and tissue damage to my kidneys and stuff.”

“It got up to like $600,000, and the machine just shut down,” said Smith. “Everybody was like, ‘Oh, that’s messed up.’”

He was arrested in Oklahoma City last week. He was initially booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center and has since been transferred to the Pottawatomie County jail.

Toxicology Report Found PCP

During the incident, Smith was destroying the machine and screaming that it wouldn’t pay out. He was eventually brought to the ground by police.

After the incident, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, the casino's owner and operator, released a statement saying they were conducting an investigation.

A toxicology report was done on Smith, which found trace amounts of PCP.

Tribal police also stated that, when reviewing footage, Smith was foaming at the mouth and not aware he was talking with officers.

As for why the machine went black, they claim it was because Smith was hitting it.

Conversely, Smith said that the machine went black and that the casino staff had told him the machine had malfunctioned.

“I asked her what did that mean, and she was like, that means you’re not going to get paid,” said Smith. “I was like, why? Because the machine shut down into a malfunction.”

He’s been charged with one count of felony destruction of property, as the damage on the machine was estimated to be $16,959.50.

Over the weekend, Smith was released on bond.
