Key Takeaways

  • Hacksaw AB Group CEO Christoffer Källberg address the companies plans for California
  • Källberg also commented on the lawsuit filed by the City Attorney of Los Angeles
  • It's unclear if Hacksaw will provide games to platforms that remain in California with Gold Coin play only

During this week's earning call addressing the third-quarter, Hacksaw AB Group CEO Christoffer Källberg, in addition to bringing up growth and new products, mentioned the plan for the impending sweepstakes casino ban in California with AB 831.

With the ban looming on Jan. 1, 2026, Hacksaw will be pulling all games from sweeps products before that date.

“In line with our principles, by the end of the year, we will no longer provide our games to sweepstakes operators in California. Revenues generated via sweepstakes operators remain a small part of our total revenue,” Källberg said during last week’s earnings call.

This comes after the provider pulled out of Louisiana and Montana earlier this year.

Hacksaw AB Group CEO Addresses California Lawsuit

As expected, many sites are pulling out of California ahead of the ban. As for providers, Playtech withdrew its games from the state in September.

Also, remember that Hacksaw was listed in the lawsuit filed by the City Attorney of Los Angeles in August against Sweepstakes Ltd. (the owner of Stake.us), Playtech, Evolution, Red Tiger Gaming, and Pragmatic Play.

On the call, Källberg addressed this lawsuit.

“During the quarter, there was immediate coverage on a lawsuit filed by the City Attorney of Los Angeles against a large sweepstakes operator and its suppliers.” Källberg said. “No Hacksaw entity has been served with any complaint from a California court. Therefore, I do not think it would be appropriate to comment on a legal action when we do not have the particulars from a court.”

Other Sweepstakes Sites in CA

While many sites are already leaving California, Playtech, a provider, has pulled out; some have a different stance. WOW Vegas has announced that it'll stay in California until 2026, and interestingly, Hacksaw Gaming is listed as its "Provider of the Month."

As mentioned, Hacksaw will withdraw from California before Jan 1, 2026.

Another platform, Modo Casino, will remain in California but eliminate its sweeps play. This platform also uses Hacksaw Gaming for some of its games.

Whether or not Hacksaw will remain in California for platforms with models like Modo Casino remains unknown, but it could be an opportunity for them to generate revenue.
