Key Takeaways

  • Six Flags will sell seven parks to EPR Properties in a $331 million deal
  • The sale includes parks in the U.S. and Canada with 4.5 million annual visitors
  • Six Flags plans to use proceeds from the sale to pay down existing debt

According to The Wall Street Journal, Six Flags, the amusement park operator that was founded in 1961, is set to sell seven of its parks to EPR Properties for $331 million.

Six Flags Executive Speaks Out

The Journal reports that Six Flags Chief Executive John Reilly said on Thursday that this deal will help "simplify Six Flags' portfolio," strengthen the balance sheet, and set the company up to operate with "greater discipline."

“Consistent with our strategy, this divestiture enables us to concentrate our capital, leadership and operational focus on the properties that we believe generate the strongest returns and offer the greatest long-term upside,” he said.

The Parks Being Sold

The deal includes the following parks:

  • Valleyfair Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Michigan’s Adventure in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston in Galveston, Texas
  • Six Flags St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri
  • Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, New York
  • Six Flags La Ronde in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Of the parks, six are based in the USA, and one is in Canada. This comes after Six Flags in Maryland also closed down at the end of 2025

Altogether, the seven parks being sold had 4.5 million people attend them last year and generated $260 million in net revenue, per Six Flags.

With the proceeds from the sale, Six Flags will pay down existing debt.

EPR Properties Plans

In acquiring these seven parks, EPR Properties will partner with Enchanted Parks, previously known as Innovative Attraction Management. They will operate the six parks in the United States. As for the park in Canada, it'll be leased and operated by La Ronde Operations. That'll go into effect once the sale is complete, expected by the beginning of the second quarter.

Through the end of the year, EPR Properties will use Six Flags branding.

“This strategic acquisition represents a compelling opportunity to expand our attractions portfolio with high-quality experiential real estate assets in established regional markets,” EPR Properties CEO Gregory Silvers said.
