Day one: the agenda for the year ahead
The focus on the opening day was on big-picture thinking and long-term direction. ICE Barcelona 2026 began under the theme “Growing the Power of Play.” Early sessions were about how the industry can balance commercial growth with regulatory expectations.
Conference discussions were on the topics of:
- The opening of new markets.
- How sports betting is changing.
- The operational challenges linked to emerging technologies.
Regulation was a recurring theme from the outset. Speakers talked about the importance of dialogue between operators and policymakers.
Mergers and acquisitions also featured heavily. Industry leaders discussed how consolidation could change the competitive dynamics. Overall, this day set up the strategic framework for the rest of the week.

Day two: innovation, start-ups and new ideas
Innovation took centre stage on day two. There was a focus on new entrants and technologies. Pitch ICE provided start-ups with a platform to present concepts directly to established operators and investors. This showed the event off as a launchpad for early-stage ideas.
Alongside this, the ICE Innovators Challenge brought about solutions that were aimed at improving security, player protection and operational efficiency. Many of the products on display showed how the industry is heading towards automation, data-driven decision-making and safer gaming frameworks.
High-profile guest appearances added energy to the day. Nevertheless, the core focus remained practical innovation. Discussions around regulation continued, though. Particularly, how new technologies can support compliance without slowing product development or player engagement.
Day three: responsibility, technology and collaboration
On the final day, attention turned to implementation and responsibility:
- Artificial intelligence.
- Payment systems.
- Growth data.
Speakers addressed how technology is reshaping both front-end experiences and back-end operations.
Workshops on fraud prevention, cybercrime and safer gambling showed the industry’s increasing focus on long-term sustainability. Rather than speculative discussions, many sessions centred on real-world case studies. There were discussions on regulated markets and lessons learned from them.
As the event drew to a close, networking took priority. Conversations shifted from ideas to partnerships. This demonstrated ICE Barcelona’s role as a place where strategies can turn into action.
The next edition will take place again in Barcelona on 18-20 January 2027.
