Key Takeaways
- BetMGM gave out the largest jackpot in online casino history this year
- The MLB, NHL, and NBA endorsed BetMGM slot machine games
- BetMGM’s online casino downloads are up significantly year-over-year
BetMGM won the American Gambling Awards’ “Online Casino of the Year” honor according to a Monday announcement.
The win marked the third straight year that BetMGM received the prestigious award, which is meant to honor leading companies and officials in the online gambling industry.
Among its many accolades, BetMGM gave away the largest jackpot prize in America during a $6 million jackpot in New Jersey, secured slot machine endorsements from top sports leagues, and introduced a variety of games to its catalog.
New year, same result
BetMGM is a world-famous casino and entertainment brand for its excellence in the retail world. Its growth and success in the online world, however, show that it is still committed to growing in different avenues.
“Winning Online Casino of the Year for the third consecutive year is a testament to the hard work of many and our unrelenting drive to deliver the best player experience,” said Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM. “We thank Gambling.com Group for this prestigious recognition.
“It is another highlight in a year filled with innovative partnerships, more commitments to responsible gaming, and a BetMGM player winning the largest jackpot in U.S. iGaming history.”
BetMGM in 2023 became the first online casino in the world to launch the slot game Buffalo. It also has slot games endorsed by the NBA, NHL, and MLB, and regularly rolls out new games for customers.
Gambling.com’s co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Charles Gillespie, said that the award category was heavily contested. BetMGM’s innovation and reliability were cited as reasons for their third straight win.
“BetMGM has consistently distinguished itself through its exclusive game offerings and first-to-market launches, including landmark titles like Buffalo and the NBA-endorsed slot games,” said Gillespie. “Their ability to consistently execute on both the big picture and fine details of delivering their online casino product has led them to this top honor yet again.”
More growth on the way?
There are many reasons for BetMGM’s success. One of them is its rewards and opportunities for customers, who can earn points through BetMGM’s loyalty program or unlock a variety of other prizes.
One of BetMGM’s biggest giveaways came during the Super Bowl when the casino company handed out more than one million bonus spins to its customers.
Gaming research company Eilers & Krejcik Gaming reported that downloads of BetMGM’s online casino app increased dramatically during the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season, while top competitors FanDuel and DraftKings’ downloads dwindled.
Although BetMGM still ranked behind FanDuel in the overall share of downloads, it grew from 21 percent the year before to 32 percent, just 10 percent behind FanDuel and five percent ahead of DraftKings.
Only seven states have legalized online casino gaming thus far. Those states include:
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- West Virginia
