Eight casino projects went before six-member Community Advisory Committees, each of which was responsible for voting to recommend or reject the proposals.

Co-owner Derek Stevens said that the sharp deviation from the casino’s rich history began during COVID but only recently gained media attention.

The company states that it would suffer financial and reputational damage if potential business partners “with millions of active users” adhered to the OCCC’s warning.

A nearby employee said that there was reasonable concern for the safety of pedestrians in the area due to the lack of infrastructure.

Cohen’s bid joins Bally’s Bronx proposal, MGM Empire City, and Resorts World NYC as those that will go to the Gaming Facility Location Board for a final review.

Bally’s is the third proposal to be approved for a final review, while The Coney is the fourth to be rejected. One CAC vote remains.

Three other proposals have been rejected since the start of last week. Three remain in the running to go for a final decision at the Gaming Facility Location Board.

They are two of five proposals that are still eligible to receive one of three available NYC casino operators’ licenses.

The vote means that all Manhattan projects, including those in Hudson Yards and Times Square, failed to get past their respective CAC.
