The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) and Green Bay Metro Fire Department were dispatched to the crash at roughly 2:45 p.m. local time on Sunday, March 22.

It was reported that the bus, which was carrying 54 people, took an exit from I-43 north onto North Webster Avenue. It then crossed the roadway and went over an embankment, resulting in more than 60 percent of the passengers being injured.

“Passengers on the bus, which was traveling from Chicago to a casino in Michigan, were either transported to one of four local hospitals for medical treatment or taken to a reunification center established at The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center, 1315 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay,” a statement from the GBPD read.

After the passengers were cleared from the bus, the Wisconsin State Patrol helped conduct a vehicle inspection to identify any possible mechanical issues or failures that led to the crash. The findings of this inspection were not disclosed.

The police will take the necessary steps to determine if charges will be levied against the bus driver.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call GBPD (920-448-3200) or Crime Stoppers (920-432-7867) to remain anonymous.

Michigan’s gaming industry

The crash occurred about halfway to its final destination.

Island Resort & Casino is owned and operated by the Hannahville Indiana Community. As one of many tribal casinos in Michigan, it boasts more than 1,100 slot machines, live-dealer table games such as poker, and a bingo hall.

It also has a defunct sportsbook that will soon reopen, following an agreement that was struck by the casino and Hard Rock Bet last December.

The facility also has 454 hotel rooms, an RV park, a pool, a spa, eight restaurants, a 1,315-seat venue, a massive convention center, and a full 18-hole golf course.

Michigan’s overall gaming landscape has enjoyed tremendous growth recently. Its sports betting and retail casino ecosystems have flourished, while its online casino market reported record highs in online casino revenue in February with $273.1 million in gross receipts.

The Great Lake State is one of only seven with legal and live online casinos.
