Tan’s Legacy
Tan Hee Teck’s 43-year tenure with Genting Group began in 1982 and reached a climax with his appointment as CEO of Resorts World Sentosa in 2007. He is credited for spearheading the property’s winning bid and 2010 launch. He was elevated to RWS chairman in 2015 while concurrently serving as Genting Singapore’s president and COO from 2010; he assumed the CEO role in May 2022.
A Personal Transition
In his retirement statement, Tan reflected, “It has been an incredible honor to be part of Genting Singapore for over 20 years, especially introducing RWS to the world, and now beginning its exciting transformation into RWS 2.0.” He emphasized pride in his team’s achievements and confidence in their ability to drive the resort’s evolution into a “global tourism icon.”
Genting Singapore reiterated that Tan’s retirement was a personal decision. The executive, turning 70 this year, plans to focus on philanthropy after retirement, stating, “My legacy will be leaving behind a team that is incredibly talented, passionate, and well-positioned for the road ahead.”
New Leadership Appointment
Genting Singapore announced Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, its Executive Chairman, will assume the role of Acting CEO effective June 1st, 2025. Meanwhile, Lee Shi Ruh will take over as Resorts World Sentosa CEO. Lee, who joined the group in 2010, has served as RWS President since September 2023. She will retain her CFO position while overseeing the resort’s daily operations, financial strategy, and long-term development.
The company emphasized the dual appointments as critical to maintaining growth, stating, “The appointments of Tan Sri Lim and Ms. Lee ensure a smooth transition and handover from Tan and continuity in the leadership of the company and RWS.” Lee’s promotion follows a planned succession strategy warranted by her 15-year tenure in the group encompassing board roles and financial leadership.
