Women Pick up Speed with Online Gaming

Recent research on how women use the internet has become of real interest to the world of online gaming. A study done by Comscore shows that women are starting to play online more than they have in the past. Although the study showed that women are still behind men when it comes to using the internet, it seems that more and more women are getting comfortable with being online and are starting to spend more time on the net.

The numbers in the study showed that women who use the internet over the age of 55 will spend an average of 214 minutes a month playing online casino games, while men between the age of 15-24 will only spend a mere 92 minutes a month playing casino games.

The study also showed that women spend a lot more time with online social communication then do men. Women are likely to spend approximately one third of their time online with social networking, instant messaging and emails. Men, however, are only likely to spend only one quarter of their time socializing online.

Also when it comes to photo sharing and shopping, women apparently spend more time online than do men. Women over the age of 55 are most likely to spend their time playing online games, and most likely to play puzzles, card and board games.

The number of women getting on gambling and sexually oriented websites has been on the up as well. Woman are almost as likely as men to be found gambling online and more than a third of woman who use the internet will view sites with sexual content.

Andrew Lipsman the senior director of industry analysis at Comscore said, “Unlike the earlier days of the Internet, women today exhibit many behaviours that are perhaps surprisingly similar to their male counterparts.”
