Will the Online Gambling Industry be Regulated by the Dutch?

Online gambling in Holland is running on a system where only one online gambling site is licensed to run, but things are about to change. The Justice Ministry Commission is suggesting that online poker now be available to players via several different online sites.

Today, online poker is the most common form of online gaming. Regardless of its popularity, the game is still considered a taboo in many countries and markets such as in the US. Anti online gaming laws make it illegal to play for a large percentage of the world still today.

Recently, however, steps are being taken to open up the internet for people that want to play casino games online. In the US, new legislations are being considered that may allow gaming sites to open up the American market.

In Holland, there is only one gaming site that is licensed to exist online. But the system is not really working. The Commission realized that foreign companies were providing Dutch gamblers with services. This means that the Commission would have to either block outside internet gaming companies from accepting Dutch gamblers or they would have to license Dutch online poker sites instead.

The Commission is not suggesting that they legalize other forms of online gaming, such as betting, bingo and other casino games. They are looking into the legalization of online poker only.
