Playboy wants to expand its horizons by adding a casino in Macau, China and England. The 84 year old founder of the enterprise, Hugh Hefner, is looking for new ways to move the company into the future and online gaming may be next.
The company tried moving into the world of online casinos in the past. In 2007, they launched the Playboy Online Casino, but after two years of being online, the casino was shut down. Now, as playboy starts to focus on expanding its land based casinos, they are looking into other opportunities to increase revenue online as well.
Macau is slowly becoming the new Chinese “Las Vegas”. The city has reported a strong increase in earnings every year and has hit an all time high in 2010. The same goes for England. Online gaming has become very popular in the UK and most British online casinos are reporting a substantial increase in revenue this year.
Hefner told media that “We will be announcing casinos in both Macao, China, and London. As far as media goes, I think we’ll be involved in more mainstream ventures.” Hefner continued “we’re moving away from the adult programming because it’s not the future. I think it gets in the way of who we are, and who we want to be.”
