A few weeks after British Columbia joined the world of online gaming, Ontario has decided to join the crowd as well. Finance Minister Dwight Duncan officially announced to the world that Ontario will now enter the world of internet gaming. Duncan explained that they province will spend the next eighteen months putting together the online casino which has potential to bring in millions of dollars to help the economy.
OLG (Ontario Lottery Corp.) Chairman Paul Godfrey commented “Across Canada and around the world, online commerce is part of our everyday lives and OLG is excited to start the consultation process for online gambling and growing its marketplace in the future,”
Ontario lawmakers have been facing real financial difficulty in the past few years. They are hoping that the internet gambling will help keep some of the programs that were recently cut because of the lack of funding. They are hoping to be able to keep the $400 million currently leaving the country for other online gaming sites within the providence.
“Many provinces in Canada are starting to see that there is a tremendous opportunity to not only bring millions of dollars in tax revenue, but to also set regulations that will protect their residents against corruption within the online gaming industry.”
All though the online casino in British Columbia was already launched a while back, it was recently forced to close up shop for security reasons. But the waters have already been cooled down by British Columbia who have now opened the door for other provinces who were afraid to regulate online gaming.
