A charity strip poker tournament in Gainesville, Florida, USA, was held Friday evening at The Vault Nightclub. The Strip Texas Hold’em tournament was held in support of the St. Francis House and Goodwill Industries International and was organized by Jason Bowman, founder and board member of the Pledge 5 Foundation, a Gainesville non-profit organization that coordinates charity drives for other non-profits.
Bowman said “I’ve worked downtown for years. I know a lot of homeless people and want to help as much as I can and find a way to keep them warm.” He also stated that he had never seen an organized strip poker tournament and thought it would be a fun way to get people involved in the community.
Participants had the option either to play the tournament for free or to pay an entry fee of $15 plus a clothing donation – which entitled them to a VIP wristband, an event T-shirt, Hooters wings, beer, priority seating and a raffle ticket with a chance to win a blue and orange Cyclops scooter. Over 500 pounds of clothing were collected and donated during the event.
The rules of the strip poker tournament were fairly simple. A player who fell below the average chip count at each blind was obliged to remove from his or her body a piece of clothing, which was naturally also donated to charity. In order to keep the event at an acceptable level of good taste – and not to let things get out of hand – the rules allowed the poker players only to reach the level of bathing suit or bikini nudity.
Any players who wished to remain fully clothed or to remove all their garments in the name of charity were encouraged to try out video poker in an online casino.

Republic of China (Taiwan) officials found that 20 percent of randomly picked playing cards have tested for formaldehyde, a highly poisonous and cancerous agent to humans.
As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, and millions of Chinese people in both Taiwan and mainland China prepare to spend their holidays playing poker with playing cards, they have been warned to be careful by the Taiwanese Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI). The research conducted on playing cards suggests a very high risk in using them, as 20 percent have a highly toxicity level of the dangerous substance.
Huang Lai-ho, Deputy Director General of BSMI, said yesterday in a Taipei press conference, “A total of five out of the 30 tested poker cards were found to contain an above-standard amount of free-formaldehyde.”
The standard amount allowed nationally permits 75ppm (part per million) of formaldehyde to be found in paper products – but this level was not what officials found when they bought and tested random decks of playing cards. One even contained 612 ppm, which could be excessively harmful to anyone playing with these cards. Huang showed concern that a poker player using these cards could experience severe skin reactions, and declined even to speculate what dangers could be caused if they got into the hands of a young child, who naturally puts things in his mouth.
Formaldehyde has been listed by the World Health Organization as one of the possible leading causes of cancer. Manufacturers whose products exceed the legal amount will be fined and potentially punished further. Huang urges consumers to buy and play with poker cards only with clear labels and to stay away from cards that have a bad odor or a suspicious look to them. Also, he advised players to wash their hands after using cards and to keep the cards out of the reach of children.
A great way to avoid touching these cards, yet still to enjoy the holidays, is at an online casino playing online poker. This allows for many more online card games, such as blackjack, and further casino games in a safe and risk-free environment.

The Gene variant MAOA-L or the so called “Warrior Gene” was found to help carriers make the optimal choice when faced with a winning hand. By research, it is believed to give gene carriers better judgment when confronted with financial risk such as they would have like in an online casino rather than make them prone to impulsive decisions.
Previous studies suggested that this gene is linked to risky behavior thus making carriers of MAOA-L more likely to lash out when provoked or to be more prone to aggression when raised in high-stress environments.
The new study, led by Cary Frydman at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, did more than just examine whether MAOA-L was associated with risky behavior. Frydman says the approach, was designed to “shed some light on the potential mechanisms in the brain which risk-taking passes through”. In order to accomplish that, his team analyzed the genes of 83 men between the ages of 19 and 27 from different ethnic backgrounds, focusing on three gene variations, one of them being the MAOL-L gene.
The subjects did a financial decision-making exercise 140 times, choosing between a sure option (100% odds of ending up with $0, for example) or a gamble such as to play casino games or (a 50–50 chance of gaining $7 or losing $4, for example).
But when Frydman and his team analyzed their subjects’ choices in the ‘value’ model, they noted another trend: when faced with a potentially winning gamble, subjects carrying MAOA-L made the optimal choice more often than those with MAOA-H. So those with the ‘warrior gene’ weren’t making risky financial decisions because they were rash, but because they were adept at rooting out the better choice.
So next time you are at the doctor’s office, ask if you ca be tested whether or not you are carrying the MAOA-L gene. You could have a biologic-scientific advantage at an online casino playing online casino games.

Cyprus: Legislators have proposed a bill to the EU which bans all form of online gambling besides sports bets. As the EU law prohibits EU nations to have any restrictions on the exchange of services between and among them, the government of Cyprus has to request the European Commission for special permission to enforce the intra-national online gambling ban.
Cyprus’ legislators are using a similar voice of reasoning that was used by Portugal in 2009. Portugal’s case was brought upon the European Court of Justice defending itself form allegations that the proposal of an anti-online gambling legislation was a plot of a government monopoly and that instead, would help to help fight criminal abuse and prevention of fraud by operators.
Petros Clerides, Cyprus’ Attorney General, has stated that the ban on roulette, slot machines and poker is “in the public interest”, and that
“It is intended to combat criminality and to protect the consumer,” He backed his claims by supporting the ECJ’s findings in favor of Portugal as rightness.
Although the legislation proposal forbids online casino games like online roulette and online slots, it will still leave room to allow internet sports betting and the provision of licenses for retail outlets.
In addition to this proposal there are a few more rules and regulations requested such as:
1. Creating a ‘Gaming board’ which will regulate all online gaming in Cyprus.
2. issuing of licenses to operators who pay government taxes based on turnover, versus profit
3. Bans on cash bets and to apply an exclusive use of credit cards and e-wallets in order to track transactions and monitor tax
4. a bank guarantee, submitted by lawmakers, to ensure that players receive their winnings
5. harsh consequences, such as shut down, on all who fail to pay due taxes on time
This attempt to change gambling laws failed back in 2004 when Cyprus’ Finance Ministry hired a team of international consultants to draft a law that would regulate online gambling. This was due to suspicions that the authors were prejudiced by their interests in gambling, the project was abandoned.
Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis estimated that Cyprus’ economy suffered an annual loss of 2.5 billion Euro as a result of unlawful land-based and online casino activities in March of 2009.

Perhaps you’re feeling too lazy, maybe you want to save yourself time or you’re just not in the mood for a long conversation.
Millions of people in the UK are exchanging regular socialising for sofalising, that is to say, staying at home on the sofa and chatting with friends and family online as opposed to in person. The online casino industry seems to be following the same trend. More and more people are choosing to play online instead of going to land-based casinos to play.
According to a recent poll, 26% of Brits do all of their socialising online. The poll listed 11 different ways people could sofalise. Twitter, Skype, online gambling sites, live chat, social gaming, and messaging are just a few.
The majority of people used text messaging as their main form of communication. Next were social networking sites, emails and instant messaging. Even when people have the time to catch up with friends and family in person, a large percent of people prefer to stay in and catch up online. According to the poll, Britons spend 4.6 hours a week talking with friends online. There are of course extreme sofalisers that spend 25 hours a week socialising online. But according to the poll, it’s only a mere 3%.
People prefer instant updates over a prolonged chat. That’s why many people chose to play online casino games and save themselves the trouble of making it to a land-based casino.

Surprising as it may seem, playing online casino games is not always a welcomed form of entertainment in some parts of the world. Recently, the Canadian state of Nova Scotia joined in the small group of provinces to put their foot down and say no to online gambling, one of the world’s oldest and most loved forms of entertainment.
According to reports in Nova Scotia the state put a ban on online gambling out of fear of the social effects it would have on the people. There are also talks about the fear of problem gambling as a whole being on the rise.
The stop on online gaming is not being taken lightly, especially not with gaming providers and potential players that have been hoping for a piece of the untouched market. The decision will most likely be appealed, but in the mean time, Nova Scotia is online casino free and will remain so unless otherwise notified.
In the last few years the UK has become a lot more liberal with the online gaming industry which is now picking up tremendous speed there. They have a huge variety of sites to choose from each one with its own gaming approach. Perhaps one day, Nova Scotia will learn from the best.

Gibraltar may not be as glamorous as the gambling mecca Monaco, but Gibraltar has been building its reputation as the new chic and stylish place for online casino sites to base their headquarters. Names such as Europort and Mansion reside in Gibraltar and are considered to be one of the most trusted names in the industry.
The gambling giants, Victor Chandler moved a large part of its operations to Gibraltar back in 1998 from the U.K. This cut players costs on gambling duty or VAT that would otherwise have to be paid in U.K.. Today, Gibraltar has over 20 different online gaming or betting companies and employs almost 2,000 people.
Peter Montegriffo, former trade and industry minister, explained that the gaming regulation has come after slow and careful progress. “There is a certain reputation risk that comes with gambling. Gibraltar is a small place. We did not want one single activity to become too big. Gibraltar never set out to become a centre of online gaming,” explained Montegriffo.”However, the industry has developed a momentum all of its own.”
In Gibraltar, the threat of the economy being swallowed up by one industry is very real. Putting all their eggs in one basket is a major fear for Gibraltar, especially after America crushed their online gaming industry which sorely affected the Gibraltar economy at the time. Luckily most gambling companies were able to turn a new leaf since the melt down in the US. Today, most online gaming operators consider Gibraltar the best place for them to operate from.

The fall season is officially here and online casinos and sportsbooks providers love it. The NFL season is in full swing and online casino players are taking advantage of this time of the year.
Most online casinos bring in the majority of their revenue during the summer months, but the fall season is also an important time for casinos as well. As the NFL games are in full swing all around the world, Europeans are enjoying the chance to bet on football and play casino games one after the other.
A lot of players enjoy getting online after a weekend of sports betting. A game of blackjack or roulette can be a nice break from a sports filled weekend. If a player does well betting on sports, his next stop is likely to be to an online casino after.
“I love a good day of American football and placing bets while I watch the game. It’s the perfect afternoon,” says Rora Terner. “After a few good bets, I take the money and enjoy my time playing at an online casino.”
People enjoy betting on sports games as much as they enjoy playing poker. The love for these two sports has recently lead poker providers to host tournaments on Sunday evening after the NFL games are over. With games running now every weekend, online casinos should expect a busy season.

Canadians take their online casino playing seriously. The extreme weather in Canada keeps most of the country indoors for a large part of the year making the convenience of playing online a real advantage. Over the past few years, Canadians have become serious players in the industry.
Over the past few days, however, there seem to be some online gaming sites that are pulling back their services and stopping Canucks from downloading their gaming casino software. Online sites have been sending Canadian customers notices via email and stopping them from using their product. In the email sent to the customers, there is very little information about new government regulations being made by Canadian legislation, leaving much speculation as to why the sudden change in policy.
Many of the top online casino operators are join the Canadian ban including Bwin, Casino Club and Paddy Power, all of which are powered by Boss Media. As of now, it seems that only Boss Media casino programs are being restricted for Canadian players.
The Casino Club communications has sent out a quote, “We regret to inform you that due to the new regulations of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Loto-Québec and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, online gaming products in Canada are prohibited. Unfortunately we are required to add Canada to our list of excluded countries. Players from Canada will no longer be permitted to play at Casino Club starting September 24th, 2010.”
At the moment, it looks like Canadian officials are trying to limit offshore competition by creating a gambling monopoly. Eliminating foreign competitors should certainly do the trick.
