The Rules of Online Casino Blackjack

The rules of blackjack online are really simple and quite similar to the rules of blackjack in a regular casino. There are typically between five to nine players at a casino table and in our online blackjack game, there are up to spots for players. However, if you so desire, you can play 1, 3 or 5 hands, betting each one in turn against the house.

Online Blackjack Betting and the Deal

Before you do anything, you need to ante up, i.e. place a bet. Once that’s done, the dealer will hand out cards to both you and your fellow players. Two face up cards are dealt to each player. The dealer then deals two cards, one face up and one face down for him or herself. The face down card is known in the vernacular as the “hole” card.

Standing and Busting

The hole card remains hidden to everyone, including the dealer, while the players sort out what they want to do with their cards. You can either take a “hit,” i.e. get another card or “stay,” i.e. not take additional cards. The object of blackjack is to get either 21 or as close to 21 as possible without going over 21 points. Those who go over 21 points are considered to be “busted” and automatically lose. Number cards are worth the numbers on them while the aces are worth either 11 or 1 point(s). Picture cards are always worth 10 points, regardless of which they are.

Hitting and Standing

So how does all this hitting and busting actually work when you play blackjack at Casino.com CA? It’s actually very simple – once the dealer has dealt the cards (it’s done automatically by a computer), each player, starting from the left and moving clockwise is offered the choice of a “hit” (taking another card) or to “stand” (stick with what they’ve got and hope the dealer’s hole card doesn’t give him/her an advantage).

Doubling and Splitting

You may have the option to “double” your hand (where you double your bet and take a single additional card) or you may also be able to “split,” where you can make two hands out of a pair of cards. If the dealer has an ace as the face up card, you are also entitled to buy “insurance” which will protect you in the event that the second card shows him to have hit blackjack.

The Dealer

Once all the players have made their choices about whether to take additional cards or stand, the dealer begins by turning over his/her hole card. If he has less than 17 points, she/he must keep taking hits until she/he gets to 17 or more. There are no options for the dealer in this rule –she/he has to keep taking hits until he gets to 17 or busts. The dealer is also not eligible to split or double like a player is allowed to do.
